Yeah, it's cool if you play an oldschool set with the oldschool ways.

If I ever play in the UK... and people ask for a rewind: I'm gonna give it to them.
I'll play a whole track backwards... :D mix in another backwards... see how they like that.

I have heard only a few times rewind during sets, when dj loved that track so much that he had to play it one more time :) I have nothing against this

Come to a dnb or dubstep show in the States...it may change your mind entirely.

rewinds are great when they're needed.

Realistically i just found the link to be funny. Some rewinds can be done tastefully. I've definitely heard sets though that contained 3-4 rewinds and it was pretty much the perfect way to destroy the vibe of the set.

Dumb.

I wheel tracks all the time. If you don't have songs that require a reload, I feel sorry for you.

i dont rewind as a rule but it definitely has its place. when used effectively it can be a great way to break up a set and get the crowd hyped.

BUT

fuck the dj that rewinds every other track or the same track MORE THAN ONCE. what the fuck? That shit drives me crazy.

Only thing I did that came close to a rewind was that I did a little scratch-in interlude in the middle of a dnb set.
Scratched in some horror-samples with an eerie piano melody.... TOTALLY unexpectd... and this sorto sounded the start of the harder part of the set.

(A rewind couldn't have had the same effect there.)

But I could see a rewind in a set once in a similar situation, but not just rewind it in 3 seconds...
Slow the track down, rewind it, slow it down (in reverse)... take it easy... let your crowd feel that you are taking things to a stop not abrubtly.

And use it as a landmark in your set to start a new vibe, genre, style or whatever.

If you wanna hear the same song over and over again, you should listen to the radio, a DJ mix is a creative piece of art imo.

some of you obviously nver have been in a hyped ragga/jungle crowd.... :?:

if not done good or overused its annoying,
but i have no problems with 7+rewinds if its the tune of the night and everybody is wild for it.

It is because of Jungle and Ragga (and now even moreso Dubstep) and living in LA that I cannot stand rewinds.. the only thing they're good for is to tell me when to go have a smoke.

I get the breaking up the set idea, but theres so many more creative, effective ways to do it.

Ive done em in the past, but its gotten far too out of hand and Ive banned them from my sets.

From a purely selfish reason, I dont want rewinds cause thats one less tune I get to hear/spin.

Besides, if its big enough to get a call for a rewind, the other three djs are probably gonna play it too, and rewind it too, which means hearing that same song up to 8 times in a night. Ive heard it happen. Thats like 20 - 30 mins worth of the same song in a 4 hour club night, approx 12.5% of your night spent listening to the same song if you are there the whole night.

I am a huge fan of the fakeout rewind though...

In my mind rewinds are a DJ's equivalent to an MC saying "Make some fucking noise". It really serves no purpose other than to get the crowed hyped.

Well ok, but it depends if you are trying to get a crowd hyped in the first place innit.
Or get them todance, trip, headnod, jump, scream.

Rewind the tune everyone's calling for, then drop something else in its place.
