does anyone know how someone would go about getting into how to design and build large speaker systems. are there college degrees for this? apprenticeships? I think this would be something cool to get into.. go design your personal sound system and then tune it and make your tracks for them ;]

A school for that would be huge, but i think you can learn the basis in every good sound engineer school.
Otherwise, DIY ! find the best speaker plan for your specific speaker and adapt it in order to get a cooler design ... we currently building some boxes for our precison devices 186 speakers ...

Do you have any local companies that build systems? That would b my best be for learning how to do this, ask for an apprenticeship or to be an intern or something. I have harassed Meyer Sound in the Bay for quite sumtime but they require degrees/ experience far beyond wut i have to even intern there. Bottom line is they r incredibly hard to design well, thats why u can spend 10 grand easy on a good system. Everything is important from the internal shape of the box angle of the cone blah blah blah.

Engineering and acoustics is what you should b looking at if your interested in doing this. I was looking at getting a degree in acoustics for a while wut deterred me was they really high levels of math you need to know in order to start the courses lots of trig lots of calculous, niether of which I was ever much good at. The world needs more people designing dope systems, you should definitely go for it if u like high levels of math.
