I'm writing up my dj contract right now and i was wondering if you guys use contracts, and if so what do you ask for etcetc?
Also, if you dont wanna talk about it publicly i'd really appreciate a pm.

Anyone got a sample contract i could check out by any chance?

cheers!

Here is the contract I retyped up for myself.
Its almost exactly the same as the contract provided by the booking agent I used when I was in a Jam band.

IDK if this will help but I figured whatever I might as well share it.
I have a ryder too but I havent retyped that yet.

As per the Ryder I was always told to ask for more than you'd settle for so you have some room to negotiate.

For example ask for two hotel room and you'll probably get one. Ask for one and you'll probably wont get it.
A lot of times we got two hotel rooms.
Parking is a nice thing to ask for as a lot of times parking in a city can be hell.

Here is the rider

http://www.mediafire.com/?n3m1yjnhmin

I'd love it if you'd prof read it. I just finished it and haven't gone over a bunch as you can tell from my typing here on this board. I tend to forget words and still read them in my mind when I prof. I'm just fucked up like that so let me know what you think.

Bolded sections generally don't stay that way. I just use it to bring my attention to things that my need to be changed.

Big Thanks for that.

Let me know what you think.

I promoted 2 or 3 shows a week for years and have kept most of the contracts artists sent me for reference.

Hit me up with your email address and ill send a few through.

It really depends what you need it for. There are varying degrees of formality. If your taking your own bookings and have a fee of around £200 then contracts quite different from bigger artists who work with agencys who warrant £1000+.

Usually you just state the obvious stuff so everyone is clear on what the terms are. (fee, travel, accom, rider, tech spec, schedule, set length & time, ect...)

With my own stuff i usually send a detailed drawing of our set up, and a tech list. Hopefully people will start giving us riders this year!

I disagree with asking for more. If I asked for two hotel rooms I would get laughed at or worse, blown off with a bad reputation for being high maintenance. I think just be clear on what you need, be flexible about things that aren't too consequential and rigid about things that are.

Good point Ill-esha

My experience is with booking a band. usually 7 - 10 people traveling. As a DJ do you guys even travel with anyone else? Soundguy? Merch Person?

Its a different game so there are gonna be some different rules.

sometimes you might travel with a friend or something but as a promoter they are not my responsibility. Nother hotel, another meal, transport, booze, ect..... that shit adds up and could be the make or break of a show.

Then again ive never had an artist put me in that position though.

Only time ive ever paid for another person other than the DJ is if they had a tour manager.

I agree with illesha about not taking the piss with the rider or that promoter could think twice about booking you the next time.

the most important thing i found was to just BE NICE!!! Building relationships with promoters is the one things that will get you gigs over and over again.

Haha Yeah Nice find.

I missed this red line under that. I'm def a musician NOT a writer.

Thx for the heads up!

i've thought about writing up a contract because local promoters can't seem to get their shit together.

problem is i think i would get laughed at if i tried to get local promoters to sign one.
