Hey dudes I probably brought this upon myself by spending so much time producing and listening to kicks and snares over and over again but after too long sessions sometimes I get this fluttering / pulsing sensation in my left ear, when I take the phones off and go away from production it goes away. Today I'm at work and I haven't had headphones on today and I can feel the sensation EVER so slightly, it's like it's stuck mid flutter. Not painful. Anyone else have this from producing? Prob should take a break much as I don't want to.

Bro that sounds like tinnitus. Your doctor can tell you for sure though, and can run tests if you're worried about it.

I used to get that too when I primarily produced with headphones. My headphones didn't have a good bass response below 60hz, so I would turn the volume up loud in order to hear the sub... also turning everything else up @ the same time.

I got a good pair of monitor speakers and now I mix at a lower volume on those (response on them is flat and clear). If that isn't an option for you I'd say be very conscious of the volume in your headphones. And talk to your doc if you're worried about tinnitus. Gotta be careful with that stuff, eardrums are a valuable asset and tinnitus has wrecked them for many a musician.

Ok thanks. I'm pretty sure Reso said he has tinnitus, and he mentioned a ringing sound. I don't have any ringing.

This happened to me this past summer too and I just took a week off and I was fine.

Yeah I have AD700's and the sub response isn't that great, so I do have to turn it up sometimes to hear the sub.

However, my computer's volume is generally around 5 to 10 (out of 100). I always try to mix as quiet as I can.. weird.

You used to have it, but it went away?

I used to have that "full ear" sensation I think, as well as fluttery and pulsing feelings occasionally. Never got diagnosed with tinnitus, but i'm saying those type of sensations are associated with tinnitus over time.

It's really prominent with anything with harsh transients. I get it both ears, plus I have tinnitus. I have really sensitive hearing though, I think it's just your ears doing their job.

What job are they doing, warning me?

I'm pretty sure it has to do with transient overload as well.

Ears feel fine today but I'm taking a week off anyway.
