Having spent the last 2 years getting nearly all of my tunes from Beatport, it can be a bit irritating trying to use it for finding glitch hop.

Does everyone just use Addictech.com to get all their glitch tunes?

As beatport doesn't have a Glitch Hop genre title, the tunes that do get on their have to be categorised as different genres. Breaks, electronica, dubstep, etc.

If you are getting a glitch hop tune released on beatport, which genre would you choose for it to be tagged under?

I dunno about shit palace, but their organization could def use some work...

check dubstep, breaks, downtempo and electronica, sometimes dnb for half-tempo type stuff...

Were I going to release some glitch on there, I guess I would tag it as dubstep simply because it seems to be the two genres with the most crossover... that or breaks, depending on how glitchy and whompy it was.

Seriously though, they need to do some work on that organization in that store...

I seem to buy all my glitch-hop from addictech or digital-tunes. Beatports organization of glitch is crap and unless I know exactly what i'm looking for, I don't bother.

Addictech is tops when it comes to laying out their store. Props to them. Any other dope stores worth checking out?

I get most of my purchased tunes from Addictech or Boomkat. Beatport has always had somewhat of a blah attitude toward bass music, which doesn't really make sense because they're headquartered in Denver and Colorado has a huge bass music scene.

They just got a dubstep section, what, like a year ago?

This.

I've always disliked Beatport above and beyond all other distributors, even iTunes.

It's all about Addictech for glitch, I don't even know what other distributor one could recommend for the genre.

I see that there are alot of things that ppl dont like about beatport. i personally dont mind the system they have, but there are also alot of draw backs.

i still think it would be good though if they did get a glitch section.

because it would expose alot of other people to the sound, as they must have a pretty huge user base.

Beatport (as is itunes) is really designed to fuck small artists and labels and there is a VERY VERY serious level of illegal use/sale of tunes via these outlets - namely labels that released hard copies of things before digital hit/got big/was available/etc - then made these releases available for sale digitally with ABSOLUTELY NO LEGAL RIGHTS TO DO SO.

In most cases the artists have a serious uphill battle to combat in and seldom see any of the returns from this posturing. I cannot count the number f people who have dealt with this = Atrocious.

Not to mention the obvious bias and dismissive attitudes towards types of music that don't fall in-line with the overall auditory-narrative that they are trying to pimp.

If you give a shit about the music you listen to and those that create it (and would like that to continue) I really believe it's best to purchase your music direct from the artist/label and especially on ay shows when available.

If what you want to buy is available on Addictech and you like/prefer digital, I would say that they are the best digital store of the bunch - They're incredibly fair to their artists/labels/vendors, and super passionate music. Not to mention the functionality of the store = WIN.

This is all obviously opinion, but I truly believe that where you buy your music is almost as important as IF you purchase the music you listen to in the first place - Others won't give a shit. . .

Alot of the time I really just go directly to the artist. I have been able to get some really dope unreleased tracks by just trying to help out the artist in anyway i can. Whether it be promoting shows, booking shows, writing reviews, or even just simply donating to the artist. But if I do buy a track from a distributer its addictech.

Yeah, I would also prefer to buy from the artist. I bought cozza frenzy from bassnectars website :) about addictech I just never really liked the interface, beatport is so much easier to use for me and cheaper but lets support the scene and buy from addictech now, if not the artists site :)

I receive lots of glitch from beatport ... when connecting to their site. It never loads properly - dunno why? Don't like their interface (possibly personal bias), don't like their search engines. Boomkat, addictech or juno are waaaayyyyy better in every respect.

thats the label acting illegally, and they sign a contract with beatport saying they DO have the right to digitally distribute the material they give to beatport to upload and distribute. please do not hold(or infer) beatport responsible for a label owner acting illegally, and in breach of contract.

I can say from knowing the people at beatport quite personally it is not their intention to fuck small artists, small labels, or copyright holders.

on this note, if your an artist, keep copies of all contracts you sign, read them carefully, and do not hesitate to send cease and desist letters if beatport/itunes/juno/or the label you signed with is in breach of said contract, or the distro happening is not covered by said contract.

Man, I know - it's like who coded this site? The guy who thought 30-second Flash into pages circa 1999 were the wave of the future? It's like dudes, PLEASE make a site that the average person could at least look at and not instantly give up. To anyone who does web stuff on any level, this site's look and functionality is a major eyesore / brainsore.
