Been Seriously addicted to buying vinyl lately.

I picked up Lorn "Nothing Else" and been loving it.

Let's hear what you got on vinyl

Make me jealous! :D

Who's got an "Crying over pro's" they'd sell for under $90?

Cheers Y'all

dont have any but would love some. i dont have a turntable at the moment... i used to scratch on my parents tt until i broke the needle.. then a year or so ago me and a buddy were scratching on our friends tt and broke that one, too... so the "scrape-table-geniuses" were no more after that.... lol.

i needa get a good turntable, i LOVE the sound of turntable meets glitch hop. goes together so nicely.

heard a mix, i think it was Boreta and D-Stylz (who was part of the invisibl skratch piklz) and it was dope! sooo dope!!! TT's+GH adds some really grit and lofi stank to the whole operation.

sorry to start ranting off topic, but turntables were mentioned, so i went off on a limb.. i got some detroit techno records and dj rupture.. lol

... I think it would be very interesting to have a feedback from someone running a glitch label and who could explain why glitch hop labels do not press vinyl. Is it because it's easier to launch a new label with digital music ? Is it because glitch is all about technology and computer ? Is it because you don't believe in this beautiful format ?

And maybe we could do a list of all the glitch hop tracks that have been released on vinyl :ninja:

i would guess because its expensive and most ppl would be inclined to just download it.
but im also curious why it would be printed to vinyl less than other electronic genres, if that is indeed the case.. maybe cuz its a smaller genre then... dubstep or.. house..or trance.. ? like.. if paul oakenfold put out a record, it would sell a ton. if ill gates put out a record, yes, it would sell, but probably not as many.... now, although 99% of people on this forum would be way more likely to buy something by ill gates than oakenfold, but you see my point right? but, i could be wrong. then again, if glich mob had a record (which i'm sure they have) it might sell hard. riight? (i know they say they're not glitch hop, but im ignoring that for this theoretical discussion, cuz GM's music is closer to ill gates than oakenfold, lol)

:chin:
This is not expensive !!!!
Let's compare one vinyl with two mp3 (the equivalent of 2 vinyl side): Two mp3 cost about 2.5 $, right (?), and you as an artist you receive 2 $ on it (and you're lucky, you run your own label blablabla). Now you want to release 1000 vinyls, it will cost about 2 $ per vinyl; and now you want earn some money, let's say 2 $ per vinyl (the same as for two mp3), now you're selling your vinyl 4 $ (!!!). And i didn't tell about wav file, but two wav files cost around 4$ (...!)
So ... wtf ! 4 (or 5) $ for one vinyl is expensive ?? Vinyl have their own sounding, as good as wav file, cost the same as wav files, but truely have more values (unique copies, physical support, ...). I know you pay your vinyl 10$ but this the same reason that make you earn less than 50% of you digital copy (distribution, label, reseller, everyone keep a part of the benefits). Right ? (!!!)

You could have said "wow mate, vinyls are so heavy, i can't take them with me for my shows)" ... Well, i'm not lazy, i'm hyper activ, and there's a solution to any problems (buy a bag !!)

People download tracks ... same as digital formats ... but their version won't sound as good as mine ...

And last thing : in every show i mix my digital tracks with my controllers, people are like "what is he doing ? looks cool but i just don't understand". Now you play vinyls, people are like "yah man! pull it up ! beatifull play ! ..."

So ... why do not glitch labels sale vinyl ? Technology has his own limit, we do not have to forget these lovely plates !

lol. i wasnt trying to piss you off man, i like records way more than mp3s, i think most people do. im just saying, if a record label has ten artists, who each put out one record, thats ten records x $2,000 ($2 x 1000 records) which is $20,000. .. vs way cheaper if it's just an mp3 album being released. anywhere from free to.. a couple thousand dollars if you include mastering and everything. i mean, i agree, records are way cooler, but most glitch hop labels are pretty small, and releasing something that costs little to no money vs. thousands and thousands of dollars? you see what im saying? but i agree, i would be cooler if vinyls were put out more, and if i get some more money together, i would love to put out one as well.

 i wasn't yelling at you haha, i just feel concerned ;)

another thing to notice is the 50% increasing vinyl sell in US for the year 2011 (i think it's 7% in UK)
So the market is still alive.

And yes I'm gonna stop arguing ... or not ...

no you're fine, dude. its just hard to pick up on tone in a 2-dimensional communication like forum threads, lol.

but you're a fucking liar! It's not 50% increasing vinyl sales - itts 50.0000000001% !! I can't BELIEVE the slander you're spreading!!!!! ;)

1. vinyl is out dated technology
2. 99% of dj's in this genre play using a controller (so pressing vinyl in this genre is a TERRIBLE business move)
3. Turntables are few and far between in most peoples lives these days, there fore vinyl isn't necessary..

AND!!!!! pressing vinyl is NOT $2 bucks a shot..
mastering(by a PROFESSIONAL), test press, art work, physical distribution, mailing international....

Technics 1200 = $600+ (for one)
Needles worth a shit with either headshells or cartridge style = $120+
Mixer that is useable with channels that wont bleed after 1 month of scratching = $900+
THE CONSUMER COST OF one VINYL IS TYPICALLY $10-12 usd.. A WHOLE SET IS ABOUT 20-40 TRACKS, multiply that times $10

+ you need speakers.. and a large space to set this shit up and COUNTLESS hours practicing so you dont sound like complete absolute garbage.

so you have a 2 Technics decks, a Rane Mixer, Ortofon cartridges and 40 vinyls and you are at WAY over $3,000.00 USD just to play vinyl?

Macbook Pro around $1200
Ableton $300
Controller from $50-$1000 (depending on what you are after)
40 MP3's = $80
then warp your tracks, D/L an Ill-Gates template ... and all of this stuff is PLUG and PLAY

its basically a no brain-er

^this!! x 10

Well said Konekta.

I love vinyl, and I had a lot of fun playing on it. Anymore though, it's just collecting dust at my spot. Occasionally I'll pull out some all dnb and have some fun, but the reality of the situation is it's just outdated. Even making the move from time coded vinyl to midi controller seemed like a move up. More control, more options during play, etc. The day of lugging around that heavy ass vinyl is over.

Most the vinyl coming out now is for the die hard vinyl fans and collectors. Let's face it, the new generation of music coming out is broadly available in digital format due to innovations such as the ipod, ipad, zune, etc. Vinyl and CD's stores have gone out of business or have been forced to focus their business on other items like art because they can't compete with the digital market. I've seen it happen to our local record stores here where I used to pick up all my vinyl.

It's just not economically viable anymore.

This might work.

Its a re-pressing but an offical one. Thing I like about the re-pressings is they're on 180 gram vinyl and most time 2xLp so gatefold style = more art.

sitting round smoking trees and listening to music with your friends is the shit

Vinyl kinda helped bring that back round here where every one is competing to dj.

we just been saying "nah put on an Album" and every body just hang out!

def been helping everyone chill on the ego dj'n thing.

If you're throwing down some classic hot Detroit electro or rockin' some mid-90's jackin' acid, it's sweet to see someone showcase a couple grand of a rare vinyl collection you can hear nowhere else. But your average crowd privy to Glitch Hop expects an on-the-fly engaging glitchy collage of that artist's own material showcasing the cutting edge in digital performance. From my experience when most from the IDM and Glitch genres see someone on tables there is an immediate internal let down because you can almost assume they're playing semi-dated material of other artists and are working in a very limited media.

jack faktor, mad props on putting that so eloquently. I'm sure there are a lot of others that feel the same, but I haven't heard that perspective before myself.

Thank you everyone for arguing on this. I truely understand these reasons that makes vinyl a little more expensive than any digital track. I wanted to go deeper into these reasons and i think you did 8-)
I generally mix mp3 or wav files too, because it's alot easier and it let me do more things (effects, ...), but my main goal here was to say that even if vinyl is quite out dated, it has not to die, because it has his own particularities ... and ok, his own use and listening. Both have to exist !
Anyway, my best friend is a vinyl purist, i'm going to have a looooong discussion with him lol
