I feel like I know for the most part what is happening in this happy little world called glitch hop but holy shit, the rest of the musical world is almost impossible to keep up with.... I feel like I am missing out on soooo much quality stuff and there's nothing I can do about it really - damn shame.

I get the Juno downloads newsletter and to stop being totally overwhelmed I only get new Broken Beat/Nu Jazz - 600 tracks per week!!! Fucking hell, even that is tough to get time to listen to

Can't wait for my internet-bot to track down everything I like based on some sort of brain scan analysis....so long as it's not invented by Apple and requires downloading iTunes to my cortex I'm good.

It is impossible, but I am trying to think about all the good stuff I get to, not what I am missing. I make some time myself every day just to listen to music I discover (and it is older stuff much often then new tracks).
I found way more hard finding any good blogs with news. But that is my mistake, I just don't know how to find them.

Right now, the only source I watch daily is Techno section on Chemical Records website (truly great shop anyway http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/ )

I feel your pain, but at the same time, revel in it. It is why i produce. The search for new and interesting sounds comes full circle. You like what you like for a reason, and if you were to suddenly change that, you would find a new way to "miss out" on some other music. But it is the quality of those styles you love which lead you to the candy for your ears. Its why we are here on this forum, why we write what we write and share it... Love it

There is never going to be enough time to hear, see, experience everything out there... But the right things for you will shine...

haha, read that back... HIPPY RANT, i am so goo sometimes

PS: Blunt Instrument- see you at deliverance... Lovin all your work

Well as a producer I just don't listen to what other's are making.

I don't read all the general label newsletters cuz they are in business anyway. And all other DJ's are gonna play the same tracks in their sets. So why not have a unique set?

As a DJ I'm lurking on soundcloud to find new talent and likeminded people.
I get a lot of satisfaction by actually digging digital and "discovering" amazing tracks. Just like I did in record stores years ago.

Stuff that gets sent to me: my soundcloud dropbox, subscriptions, the soundcloud group I moderate... it's all too much. I only listen to the tracks in my sc group because I committed to that, but I listen to it quickly.

I have this motto when it comes to commercials/ads: When people are trying to sell you something too desperately or advertise it too often and unpersonal... there has got to be something wrong with it. (are you being informed or are you being told to buy?)

I know exactly what your talking about. I felt like this a couple of months ago. But quite simply, you just have to let it go. There's so much music getting made these days, good and bad, but at the end of the day it's impossible to listen to it all. I have a few labels that I like to follow, and every now and then I will read some interviews with producers I like (as they usually big up producers they're into) which I then will check out. I've come to realise that you don't need every new tune, or new tunes all the time either. I'm quite happy to buy new tunes every other month now, where as I used to buy them each week. By doing this it gives me time to really get to know each track and experiment with them in mixes.

Completely agree, a few years ago at University before I got into production, and was DJing quite a lot, I managed to stay on-top of things a lot better. That pretty much took most of my spare time, and I had quite a lot of spare time back then.

However these days the majority of my spare time is taken by production, I might be able to spend an evening a week looking for tunes (spread over the week).

If only you could listen to music whilst you were making tunes.

I don't DJ so it's not necessary for me to search stuff out, but as a music listener and culture fiend I've come up with a method that I like. Sometimes I dig new stuff, and some times I dig old, but typically I work it like this...

Hear an artists I like, find out what label there on, listen to two other artists.
If those two artists are as good or better than the artists that introduced me to that label I'll work to get there back catalog and/or start following what they do as far as new releases.

Right now I'm working on the back catalog for:
Rap-A-Lot (Country Rap Tunes Ala Scarface, Devan the Dude, Bun B and Pimp C (solo))
Blue Note (Seriously been working on this for like 4 years)
Trojan ( Ever since Madlib did the Blunted in the Bombshelter mix, classic dub and reggae)

The (few) Labels I follow:
Stones Throw (the pinnacle, best label pound for pound in years)
Error Broadcast (Pixlelord, KenLo, DZA)
Brainfeeder (everything but Iyamsam)
Ed Banger (don't like house but Oizo is god)

Most good Beat music is self released, so that makes it a little more difficult, but just checking Moovmnt keeps me up on most of that. Of course I also do the SoundCloud digging every Sunday to keep up on the real underground stuff.

This has been on my mind for the past couple months.
I'm solely a DJ right now. I take serious pride on keeping up to date on everything.
Right now I'm struggling with the battle within of becoming a producer.
I can't imagine not being able to keep up to date with everything because in reality I really do love this music and nothing better than hearing a fresh new tune and jamming out to it.

I know production would completely consume me but in the long run I'm sure I'd still get some fresh beats sent to me because of my blog (send me tunes!)

I will say it's quite a challenge keeping up to date with everything. Glitch Hop is no different because theirs new producers appearing on a daily basis. You always want to be well connect and build a relationship with all the people out there and not just listen to tunes. This is where I think production helps. Dying to collab with people but have nothing to offer yet.

Much love to all the producers out there though!

I always ask myself this. Know exactly what you mean.

That's why I love it when I have/take time to edit photos... that's about the only computer-work I can do where I can listen to new mixes or tracks at the same time.

Sometimes I can listen to music while editing (silent)video.
Or when cooking or cleaning... but that's only suitable for listening to mixes.

:chin: Damn, I am suffering this same condition also :S

I havent searched for new tunes in lots of weeks :S even though I have 1 or 2 gigs a month. I've gotta find me some time to search for new tracks to buy to stay fresh, but on the other side, I have been producing more and I've been liking it :D
