GHF I need your help! :gusta:

Ok, straight up, I'm just looking for a label to release my new funk/wonky glitch album.. (sometimes a bit dubby, but its not a dubstep album, to be certain.. but, a couple of wobbles on the sidelines and edges only helps the funk sound, i think..)

i feel like it has an extremely modern sound, very fun and exciting... and also has a strong old school funk influence.... (Imagine P-Funk making "Flashlight," but with a modern crunk'd-out wonky mindset)

i spent ALOT of time trying to figure out what (in my opinion) makes a great funk album. It really was like a personal quest for me, and as I started to gain more self confidence in my life I found that funk music was like a personal soundtrack for that blossoming transition that I was going through. Funk always seemed like a mystery to me, but I was determined to figure it out - so, little by little, I tried to learn the language of it, understand it on an intuitive as well as logical basis ("the art AND science of," FUNK) I spent a LOT of time in developing loads of unique synths, and I tried to make the drum patterns as dope and bounced out as much as possible.. Alot of manual-tweaking of individual frames and moments, not just presets layered on top of everything, so that it really has a personal touch all throughout the record. So anyway, this album is personal for me, but I feel that anyone who enjoys a good beat and a great vibe can dig it, too!

I feel like i've worked hard at mastering the structures, scales, melodies, and vibes necessary to make FUNK as good as I can. I think i've found somewhat new musical territory with this strain of sound but let your ears decide for themselves.. and remember, these are only three of about 16 tracks I have available NOW..

anyway, the album is called, 'The Most Funkenest,' and I'm looking for help from ANYONE who can point me in a good direction as far as finding a good label...

here are a few preview tracks, so you get an idea of what this album sounds like...

again, any and all help is very appreciated!!!

I have no headphones at the moment to give a listen, but Skanky Panky out of the UK puts out some damn fine funky glitch/midtempo...

the history and mystery of the funk:

They say The Funk is a living creature. It's about the size of a medicine ball, and covered in teats. It came from another planet and landed over Bootsy Collins' house. Back then, Bootsy was just a simple farmer, but he took one look at those mauve titties and he lost his mind. He began to milk the Funk, and made himself a Funkshake, for which he praised the Lord. After consuming said Funkshake, he began to feel fizzy inside and found he could see 'round corners. He passed out, but when he came to, baby, he was slappin' that bass guitar fast and loose like some kind of delirious Funky priest. A few months later, he was world famous with his band Parliament, and everyone wanted a piece of the Funk: Rick Wakeman, even The BeeGees. One day, Parliament were on the Mothership fooling around with the Funk, when George Clinton kicked the Funk clean overboard. That was July 2nd, 1979. The day the Funk died.

...Two weeks later, I found the Funk in bed with a Conger Eel. At first I thought it was a sea anenome, but under closer inspection, I realized that it was a funky ball of tits from outer space. I offered to take him back to Parliament but he said he was done with that shit, and that they never listened to him anyway, and were only interested in his funky produce.

I'M OL' GREGG!

so...
wat ive got so far is... skanky panky, tokyo dawn... no one on here knows of ANY other funky-producing labels? really?

I always thought funk was an unspoken influence (among others) in LOTS of glitch hop.. Not that it has to all be funky, but you know what ahm sayin..

im trying to make money (on top of my other job) to save up enough to move the hell outta MIchigan.. not trying to become a millionaire, i'd settle on moving-and-first-few-months-rent type of $$$... Nobody? Really?

you might have to settle for new pair of shoes money. people aren't really buying digital records that much.

i know the majority of my funk tracks were downloadable freely and are unreleased ...
but well, my advice would be to look at addictech (or any other music seller site) and list what funk label you like ! and i'm sure you can find some on ghettofunk.co.uk. My point is if you like the sound of one of the label you can find there - and if the sound you make is close to what they release - try to send them a demo ...
but hmm this is something i never did - i just make free sound for a free world ! 8-) and by releasing yourself your own album you will get all the money ... or selling home made CD when you play somewhere is pretty cool - did it one time, set a free price and had great surprises ! and met great people (!)

thanks 4bstr4ck3r i will do that..

as far as free goes.. ive given tons of tracks away for free, tens of thousands of plays and/or downloads later, im feeling like if that many people have heard my music.. maybe i can make enough to be outside the poverty line soon? lol. i mean if that dubstepper skilless can do it... surely the soulful winds of a funky revolution might blow through. or maybe that virus that i cooked that up that can automatically shut down the internet... maybe i should execut said virus, making downloading impossible!

just kidding, i dont know how virus.

That Skillless guy just signed these guys:

http://www.koansound.com/releases/funk-blaster-ep/

From Rolling Stone:

"The idea for the track was to make a Seventies funky beat fast forward into the future. Instead of the slap bass carrying all the groove, it's the synths, so a lot of time went into making the basslines as tight and punchy as possible."

well alright, Skrillex did something I really really agree with, givin KOAN a chance. That's dope. I'm a big fan of KOAN Sound... I guess Im not sure how I would put my music in front of Skrillex though.. I mean, yea, I could hit up his soundcloud or facebook, but a million people do that every week... I will try, though.. Thanks for correcting me, btw. Perhaps I was wrong about this Skrill dude?

The search continues...

Not exactly a correction, sir. It is interesting however. KOAN sound is totally mainstream but right in style with 'Funk Blaster.'

It isn't really 'Purple' or 'Wonky' but that's the buzz. How many people eat up the 70's-funk-reference candy, even today! I know I do!

A lot of times people want you to have your own leverage before they sign you. Take Compact up on those connects.

I'm not signed but I have a few connections. I'll trade you a remix?

+1 for Ghetto Funk. You could also send your stuff to ill-esha--Street Ritual is very open to the funk. You could also try Old Tacoma Records (Eliot Lipp's label), and some of the established glitch hop labels like Muti and Daly City. And Addictech Records does seem to release a decent amount of funky stuff.

I think a lot of glitch hop does have some funk influence, but my impression is that what's really popular nowadays is the crunk brostep-in-disguise sound. Even that stuff owes something to funk, but only because dance music has to have some groove to it.

hey man, very very VERY appreciated that you hit them up for me on Tokyo Dawn! I was wondering if... (and i know i've already asked you for a favor, so, im also sorry, you can ignore/say "no") but wondering if you could pass an album demo to them or something? I just cleaned up my soundcloud ( it was completely full) stripped it down to the best tracks, since im looking for a label, so theres not much on there right now.. most of my new tracks are safe n sound on my hard drive... but I have an album zip file ready to go. i could email it to you in the next five minutes if ya want...?

respectfully, im not buying that explanation. no offense.

there's still millionaires being made from music.

im not expecting half of that kind of success, but i know people are doing it. if that's the vibe-that making money AND making music are mutually exclusive--then we as a glitch hop community need to have some more ambition about it! for real! I'm not being greedy, i wanna make enough money to move out of michigan, call that greed if ya want, but i wanna live in California again, and it costs ALOT of money to do so, im honestly thinking about rent money and food when i talk bout making some bank here.. Which is why I needs a label! I know my musics great enough! :) :)

Hey man. there is no sin in greed. greed is healthy. all I'm saying, is that in the market of underground electronic music, record sales are not where the money is being made, and I'm sorry to say this. you need to play shows if you realistically want to make enough money to do anything significant. selling records is hard because most people get anything worth buying for free, and the small percentage of people that buy music because they care about the artist are not generating enough revenue to pay your, or most anyone else in the communities rent. I'm not trying to hate on what you are trying to do, but you might want consider another way to raise funds.

Hit up Simplify Recordings -> http://soundcloud.com/simplify , submissions email is there.
They have been really great and we are definitely into the funkier side of glitchhop

not dissing you, but before you go for an album i think it would help A LOT if you dialed in your production skills.

The production isn't bad but compared to the HIGH level of production in EDM these days it is lacking, also going "outside of the box" will not sell or attract too many people if the production isn't up to par.
