they don't seem THAT similar to me... mike slott is a little more emotional/hopeful/thizzed/arped/majorkey/DSP. samiyam is more traditional beats-head MPC blap.

i hope we can all enjoy both.

Honestly they both sound a bit to much like Lotus to me. Hoping to check out more of there stuff though, especially Mike Slott cause I hear a lot of good things about his style.

Any recommended listening for comparison purposes?

i think i like mike slott more, but def. do enjoy samiyam, though, definitely. i need to hear more of him though, i ve heard enough of mike slott to know how dope he is.. and flying lotus, too...

is there a specific name for that type of glitchy hoppy lofi style shit? I mean, i call it lo-fi glitch hop or just like.. downtempo hip hop, even, beecause what else do you call it? but like, when i say glitch hop, i think of the Glitch Mob or Edit, or Ill Gates, to be honest. and there's defintely a difference between Glitch Mob and Mike Slott... ya know...

^ many are calling it "wonky" or "futurebeats" or just "beats".. feel free to add your own.

definitely a different style.

future beats sounds like a Big Beat compilation from the late 90s with fatboy slim and and midfield general or something. haha. but whatever, that's just my bullshit bias, Wonky to me reminds me of grime and british breaks, but it is wonky, samiyam and mike slott and fly.lotus and hudson mooo, it is wonky.

well, whatever. when me and some friends bring Wonky-Grunge, or... 'Grunge-Wonk' into popularity, everything will be cool. or, Sludgy Wonk. or Wonky Gunk. or Gunky Wunk. or Instrumental Filth. or Fly Gunk.

if i need to differentiate the sound from other Hip Hop sounds ill use the term Wonky but other than that its all apart of Hip Hop to me =D (except when it goes into breaks/dubstep territory)

On topic, I havnt heard that many Mike Slott tracks, i will say that the song cadeting pretty much reminds me of Flying Lotus.

SamIyam gets my vote due to me knowing about 14 tracks from him i like, and only like 3 from mike slott.

What id like to know is who was really the first to push that "videogame Wonky sound" that people like

Dibiase, Flying Lotus, Samiyam make. Unquantized beats have been around forever as well as the sampling of video games in hip hop, but who was really the person who is recognized as taking these 2 elements and making a style out of it?

Sometimes ill be working on a track that utilizes unquantized beats and video game samples but i cant help but feel like im "biting" even though as stated, these 2 elements have been around for a minute.

As always, the jazz people discovered it ~50 years before the others grasped it. ;)
