hey guys I guess you could say I am kinda new to this forum cause I have known about this site and others like gearslutz, IDM forums for a while now. It's just I am always busy with school (I'm a sophomore in high school) and have been saving up for A LONG TIME in order to buy my very first MacBook Pro 15-inch :D

I have been into producing music ever since I was in middle school, I picked up a copy of FL studio 9 producer edition when i was 13 (in 8th grade) and the second I opened that program I was like WTF :fullretard:

everything looked sooooo complicated and alien to me. but I eventually learned how to use it after months and months of noodling around with all the plugins and how a mixer works ect.

I also had help from a friend of mine who worked at my local Sam Ash store here in San Antonio, TX
He also taught me a little bit about piano and how to construct a simple hip-hop beat, and teached me how to use FL studio a little bit, other than that though I was all alone on the rest of it. ( I now use Ableton Live 8 )

I would say that I am not a very good musician to be honest  I wrote alot of my songs based on feel and the vibe that my synthesizers and drums were giving off. I don't have a very good grasp on music theory either. The only instrument I really have played all my life is the Trombone in middle school band and now marching band in high school. The bad part is band doesn't really teach you music theory, they just teach you how to read music off of a piece of paper and I never really liked that concept. because if you took that sheet music away from a musician, they don't know how to "write a song" like all of us do here in our own bedrooms using computers ( I hope that makes sense )

That is why I am leaving band after my sophomore year and I am going to focus most of my energy and time on production, because I find computer generated music to be so much more interesting and the idea that we can manipulate sound using laptops is just a fascinating concept.

My dilemma now is getting at least some form of structure of music theory under my belt, and now that I have this macbook coming soon, I can really get down and dirty with sound design and processing sounds harder and in all have a more interesting sound to my music ( I am using a crappy windows computer at the moment )

my setup right now includes: M-Audio keystudio 49 key, Komplete Audio 6 interface, a pair of Resolv a5 studio monitors, Komplete 8 software bundle, and a gateway PC that is NOT SUITED for music at all (that is why I want my mac because then I can really use Komplete 8 to its full potential!! )

and on top of all that I live in San Antonio, TX I would rather be in LA or Austin, TX though cause the people over here don't understand the music I listen to ( I listen to everything coming out of the west coast and I <3 The Glitch Mob!!!)

anyway that's my story. here is my latest stuff I have done on Ableton Live 8

Well, welcome to the board. It is good to have you here. Really digging that track you shared, definitely captures that older PantyRaid feel. Honestly, if you don't know anything about theory, I wouldn't know from that track. There are some fantastic resources people have pointed out on here as far as musical theory is concerned, I just don't really remember them this morning. I can definitely recommend a book called "Music Theory for Computer Musicians" which has helped me a ton theory wise. Also, if you search there are quite a few good in depth threads on theory already posted. Cheers!!
