Just saw your previous post, nice track. Not sure how I missed it before. Sounds mixed pretty well. Didn't know this thread was still alive.

But... Why dude? Why would you not just bump the post instead of lashing out like that?

That's fucked up. I mean this thread was all about positive protest for change, and now you've gone and soiled it with your negativity.

yea dude, didn't mean to overlook your mix, wasn't intentional. but.. its a decent mix, i like how you showcased some good samples but also put your melodies and sounds in there, a good track to introduce some people to some of these occupy ideas. well done. yea, it can def be on the comp, i gotta put that comp up on bandcamp, instead of just waiting for a certain number of tracks.

also, im starting to look at the ows as a ... (and pardon me if im paraphrasing or editorializing a little bit too much) but it seems like a rebirth of liberal energy. i mean, or at very least, a new generation standing up for itself... the Occupy its in DC now, too. and i feel like a lot of the energy in the OWS wasn't a contrasting energy to what was happening in the whole "fuck sopa" thing. anyone got any opinions on all of this?

well, are you talking about the occupy wallstreet movement and/or the occupy movement in general (including Occupy DC) and/or just this specific compilation?

.. because IMO (and if anyone has anything to add to this, feel free, i want to keep this whole concept somewhat open-forum in structure) there was the whole Arab Spring revolution, people standing up against corrupt/out-of-date thinking by governments and institutions.. then, in America, obviously it's not as bad here as in Egypt or the Middle East, but there's a lot of corruption.. There's a middle class that is crumbling, there's a lot of things that need to be addressed... Especially when you loook at things like SOPA, the entire internet being changed BY OUR government.. (thats just one example, im sure others can come up with more examples of corruption) but I think one of the main things is to support this new energy of our generation and culture standing up for itself and feeling like we DO have a voice. Because, (again, to bring up the SOPA thing) when we do work together, we can and HAVE affected change.)

I don't want to shut down wall street. Most people don't. But there's a lot of corrupt things they're doing behind the scenes, there needs to be more emphases on regulation, A LOT more - to fight this kind of crony - capitalism..

Look at the Tea Party - I don't support a lot of what they're about, but as a movement, they did (and still are) affecting change. Look at how the Republican Party has changed because of them, the party is waaay more conservative then it was a few years ago, even when Bush was in office.

I'm not trying to say "yay teaparty," but what I am saying is, I think if people come together, and all speak as a group, they can affect change, and I think we need to get used to that idea, instead of just staying apathetic (the way I DEF was and a lot of people were back in.. the 90s, for example..)

There's a lot of things that can be worked towards, it IS somewhat broad, and there is room for disagreement and discourse, *and thats a good thing, IMO* ... and this compilation is a celebration of - and in support of - the political energy we need to work towards things like anti-censorship.. (for example -> PIPA, SOPA, & now the new one they're coming out with now, whose acronym i cannot recall) ...speaking up when our institutions do horribly destructive things, and letting them know they're going to have to work against a huge group of ORGANIZED people.. (which really works) .....working towards increased regulations to protect "the little guy" (which is most of us) .. pushing to really punish those who fuck us over (and when i say punish, i mean prison-time/harsh fines. im not talking about anything physical) ... pushing for America actually producing things, making things, so that we have jobs, and our economy doesnt tank even more, not just importing things from China cheeply (thats what the Occupy the Ports was about, a smaller protest in scope than the OWS) .. and in general, letting the powers in place right now KNOW that people are not apathetic, and that we are trying to stay informed, and really do care about what's going on, and WILL work hard when it comes to keeping our rights intact.

again if anyone has anything to add, go ahead :)

one thing i dont understand tho, *and im not talking about you, Compact, im talking about people ive talked to about this occupy thing in the past, so i dont want to sound like this is a diss or anything, its certainly not* is how some people say things like "what are the occupy people about? they're not for anything!" and then i'll name a few things, a few ideas, and then they'll turn around and say, "Ah! They have too many ideas! They need to focus!" its like..... WHAT? lol.. how can it be both? no ideas or too many ideas? oh come on! lol.. and, no , i wont agree with eveerything that every protester at OWS says, of course not.... but i feel like, when there's something very-very specific, like "put a roadblock on the Road to War with Iran" or "Fuck SOPA" those are very specific things, and when very specific things come up, then yes, i agree very specifically. And when it's trying to help cultivate the energy to motivate people to want to support specific movements and to feel like they have an actual voice - well, i feel like that whole process is ALSO an end unto itself, and i think it's important to work towards that.

Like I said, i think the OWS is a rebirth of liberal energy in this country; or, a generation coming into it's own as far as realizing they can stand up for themselves when they're getting fucked over. Its a harbinger of the next decade or more, and it's a mindset that I think needs to be cultivated and promoted. You don't have to agree with every idea of mine 100% to still be basically in favor of the idea of a non-apathetic culture with a solidarity with the Middle-and-Lower Class, and a basic distrust of the government endorsing crony-capitalism.. etc etc. (and a penchant for good music :D )

So, it can be general, and it can also be super-focused, it can be micro and macro; its a whole culture of ideas.

That's my take on this. Any ideas to add, or yay's or nay's or 999's? :chin:
:pez:

So I haven't been able to finish a track for this comp yet and decided to do the next best thing and do a huge sample pack. It's a bunch of scratching, a bunch of synthesis, a lot of glitching, a little electro, lots of sweeps, risers, drops, some melody, lots of chippy stuff.

Tried to keep it mostly musical and provide something people could put with StrangeFlows vocal chop samples. 61 files total all .wav 24bit 96khz.

Hey Rebeldes! This project is sick, I was trying to get my ideas down and find a musical way to express the disgust I feel for this corrupted world. am I still on time? how does it work.. can I just make a track and show it to you to see if it can fit with the project??

I'm from italy, and the situation here is critical, almost like Greece.

Ande the people is not really motivated like in the U.S. or maybe..we have less fighters! we need some musical support!

bigup!

yea, def still collecting songs for this.

cool track Angry. i need to listen to this with stereo so i can feel the bass tho. and a couple other tracks on here and the soundcloud page.. is it chomsky btw?

ineed to go on thru the sc page and possibly delete like half or 3/4 of the tracks people have submitted on there , lol. and i dont mean that as like, "ah, their tracks suck!" no i just mean like, if you have a soundcloud group that more than 10 people know about, you suddenly get all kinds of tracks that have nothing to do with the theme of the room, tracks that have not even the vaguest political ideas behind them, lol. like some random instrumental dubstep set or tracks or whatever hahah.

btw here's the link for that page again, everyone. im gonna put the best ones from there, and also the tracks from this thread, and put them on a bandcamp page soon, methinks. But it'll be open ended. I won't mind adding tracks to it later, after i already got like ten tracks up there. actually, it'd be cool to have a TON of music on there.

http://soundcloud.com/groups/occupy-the ... cks?page=1

oh and one other thing.

i know i tend to type too much in these posts a lot of the time, lol.. but was curious people's thoughts on this..

i remember coming up with this idea when I knew i couldnt really get to New York or DC or Oakland or any of the major protests, and i wanted to do my part. and i saw the OWS protests come to some success: economics and jobs and equality and everyone getting a fair chance were put back into the national debate/dialogue, which made me happy, but the republicans have defintely hijacked that conversation to make things about social issues lately; and on the one hand, its seen as a clearcut way for obama to get in office (republicans saying women shouldn't have easy access to birth control is a great way for democrats to take an election.. lol..) so maybe thats good? and im not the biggest obama fan but.. i dont know, i see the OWS as not JUST occupying wallstreet specifically but also a rebirth of liberal energy in this country. should we focus on the bigger picture here? Glitchhoppin or DubSTEPPIN up for Democracy? Or should we just keep it OWS? Am i being too vague? I can explain my points more if need be, i did just wake up an hour ago and decided to put my ideas to words here.. would be interested in other's thoughts.

Yep. Chomsky ;)

I think we'd be a lot more successful @ this point if we kept the comp as Occupy Wall Street Music.

that being said I dont know anyone at any parties that would want to dance or even sway back n forth to this shit, such a depressing pile of sounds from people so far removed for the situation at hand its disgusting.

Yeah, cause all music has to be dance and party music. Cause this is dance party hop forum, where only dance party hop music is allowed.

You don't know any of us, and you don't know anything about our lives.

Why do you think Ill.Gates would sign in here just to be a dick? I've never seen him do that... And you can't even spell his name right - Ill.Gates.

Hate to break it to you, but some people think your tracks are bullshit too. It's called having a preference. Don't get your head too big just 'cause you have shit on beatport now.

Plain and simple, I think you're being a dick Konekta. And honestly I don't get it, I've only personally tried to be as nice as I can to you as a fellow glitch fm dj and human being. I didn't even make a big deal out of it when I called you to stop by and say hello for a minute in Ashland and you didn't show up or answer my calls for the rest of the day after I went to meet you where you said you would be.

Hate to break it to you, here but 3 years ago Dylan used to log on here often and let loose. Stop being so sensitive and step it up. You dont have to make dance music or floor fillers each time but at least make high quality music.

Are you kidding me? Beatport has nothing to do with these comments. I know MY TRACKS ARE BULLSHIT!!

Have you heard KOAN? have you heard Kezwik?
I have fucking ears man!
Like I said there are countless numbers of 15 year olds that make music that is WAY BETTER THAN MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO POST HERE!!
dont get it twisted homie, Im not posting each and every one of my tracks on here for a reason ;)

All Im saying is this place isnt really a creditable place to come download free awesome tunes on thursday night. Not that every tune here is fucking garbage but some of them are, for fucks sake half of em arent even labeled properly, and there is direction for posting in the DUBS as a sticky at the top.

anyways keep making music, dont let me words stop you, just allow them to possibly CHALLENGE you.

all of us you mentioned by name DO in fact live in cities.

And if ya don't like the samples, ok, that's your choice to hate on em, but some people are really into this project and really enjoy working on this whole thing, and what's wrong with that?

Is it impossible for you to be the least bit positive? Seriously if all you're doing is coming on here and hating on everyone, whats the point in that, really?

i dont think the reason we havent seen Ill.Gates here much is because me, angry, and canceroflove have 'overtaken' this forum! hahahah.. Seriously, whats with the personal attacks man? For real! I thought most of us were friends here! :D

i saw a post a couple weeks ago where in a thread called somethng like "say something nice" you were telling us we were holding this forum down, now holding it down is bad suddenly? Is it REALLy impossible for you to be positive?

Seriously, if you hate us that much, even though none of us are trying to provoke you, maybe you need to consider what it is thats annoying you so much, because we'd all enjoy your support on this or any compilation/release/whatever, and if you're not into that, thats fine, but like im saying, what good is hating gonna do? Im not gonna leave this forum cuz you dont like the Occupy music or whatever, or cuz you think those samples are bullshit for whatever reason.. or cuz you wanna insult everything everyone does. Its not like you're music is ALL over the radio or in every club or rave. Not to rip on your music at all, but come on dude, we're almost all underground here, trying to learn what we can, right? Tearing everyone apart doesn't help anyone.

Go ahead and "boycott ghf" if it'll make you feel better, or grow up and stop blaming three people for everything you're mad about.

The really annoying part is that I wouldn't be suprised if you're just gonna get even more pissed off at the thought that we would defend ourselves, right? Or, maybe not - prove me wrong. Seriously.
