So ive been thinking about it for a couple weeks decided to finally post...
Ive been really inspired by the Occupy Wallstreet movement, and am happy that alot of unions are on board with it now, I feel something really brewing, and I'm stoked  that its coming to my own town of Lansing, MI! I'm def gonna be there this weekend!

So I was thinking about it for awhile and I think it would be cool as hell to get some talented people from this board to donate their artistic energy in whatever form they can. :pez: I want to make some music that includes samples from the protests, samples from bill maher, young turks (a great news podcast) jon stewart, different news channels/sites, everything i can get my greedy funky hands on.. would anyone on here be down for doing something musically in the same direction? maybe we could set up an album the way Angryrancor did for the defense of Bradley Manning compilation? I dont mean to say anyone HAS to use samples, obviously you can do whatever you want..

and in case anyone on here is like, "Will, what the fuck you goddamn stupid nerd, wheres Grungestep 2?"

well, there were more problems then anticipated.. but its being mastered now, so it shouldnt be long. and anyway, id like to start a project involving occupy wallstreet, so here it is!

ideas (brainstorming. un-official)

:pimp: -collab songs
:pimp: -collab albums
:pimp: -compilation album
:pimp: -separate albums but a limited-time (or unlimited) "collective" or group
:pimp: -a net label
:pimp: -any other ideas. if anyone has any ideas post post post

 :joint:

even if this specific movement is american, the same thing is slowly happening everywhere in the world (Spain, Greece for instance). I'm in !

yea. definitely! thats a good point.

Well, where I'm coming from on this is... We've all seen protests and revolutions around the world, and people here in the U.S. started saying, "When is it coming to America? Will it? Would we accept it? Aren't Americans too lazy? etc.." and I feel like right now is the opportunity to make this thing huge in the states, and I want to support it. But I completely agree, it's happening lots of other places, too..

Maybe there's a way to potentially make it more inclusive, so as to include Europe and even Asia as well, if necessary? I would not be against that, but I know that personally I'd like to focus more on my home country for my own tracks, but feel free to do whatever you want to do.. maybe this could be "the 99%" instead of "Occupy Wallstreet," ? Because the 99% argument holds true all over the world, not just America...

Thoughts?

The major difference may be that in USA your revolt came from a fact that your politic and economy is declining and in Europe it came from economic law choosed by the government because economy declined, but at the end all is against the economy managing of our world ...
Well keeping the idea of 99% is a good idea, otherwise playing with the concept of occupying (whatever and not only WallStreet) could be cool too. So let's occupy the 1%'s nightmares with some scary basslines !!

Big up for bringing the idea ! I think a free compilation would totally fit ;)

agreed

let's dubSTEP UP TO WALLSTREET... and protect our BASSic rights, and not let the government and wallstreet tie our hands behind our backs. Let's turn the REVERB on and SUSTAIN the protests...
(ok, the bass and sustain/reverb ones are stretching it.. im still brainstorming, hahaha.)

:x RAVE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!

I would be down as well.

Also, just noticed this, is it just me, or does the smiley face dude in the dancing crowd right underneath the DJ look like it has a perpetually angry frowny face?

^^ As breakcore was, the glitch could be one of the most anarchist process of creating sound :)

:fire:

im coming from breakcore too, and it was a hope of mine that a strain of glitch hoppish-style music could become outspoken. Even more political. (insert abbie-hoffman-smiley or 99%-smiley here, haha)

It's fine that there's some very hipsteresque or straight groovin' or angry undergroundish-scenester shit going on in glitch hop, no reason to try and cut that out or anything, (i like alot of it :ninja: ) i just mean ALSO cultivating the politically thoughtful or subversive strain more. It's not like there's NO political glitch at this point, i feel like there is definitely some.

It's like some of the protesters in NY are sayin, "Let's not tear it down, let's rebuild it."

Cuz I only listen to skrillex vs. bassnectar mashups. all other music is LESSER! :pez:
bassnectar is like rage against the machine, only angry! :fullretard: :fullretard: :fullretard:

:evilking: ...No, those last two sentences are just cuz i spontaneously felt like getting extremely sarcastic.

not sure why.. :chin:

but on politicized/subervise/real-world-idea-drive/not-exclusively-hipstery glitchhop... It doesn't have to be all be on the exact same page at first, either, in terms of ideas behind it; the fact that it COULD insert real-world ideas and a dialogue would be an amazing first start. As in, I wouldn't be making anarchist music, or anti-dollar music, but I know some might, but I agree with the quote that it could be an anarchistic process musically or structurally. It's "GLITCHING" music out, afterall! :pez:

btw.. an update on the sample pack.. ive cut 50 samples so far  and.. I'm thinking of going to 99. Ive got a great foundation of almost-entirely-NY-Occupy-themed samples so far...including Tom Morello rants! wut wuttt!

zip em up and put em on mediafire or megaupload.

here  http://www.archive.org/details/99SamplesForThe99Percent

was gonna go with mediafire like you suggested angryrancor but i figured with archive.org i can show all the samples right there. plus you can download the bulk ZIP file at the top, too. so there ya go.
