What are your favorite tracks and from what artist?

I have yet to really notice the common thread that makes songs 'purple'.. It seems like a bunch of people just liked the name, and used it without much discretion..

Maybe I'm wrong. I would love to get educated on this.

There's modern rave culture's take on it, and here is one explanation of modern Purple: http://generationbass.com/2009/08/17/the-purple-wow-sound-g-funk-meets-dubstep/ and their definition is basically "G-Funk meets Dubstep = Purple Wow Sound!" .. personally, i think you can easily go beyond dubstep with it, and also, "Purple Wow," is a really cumbersome and wonky name for anything.. And also, I think something's to be said for the wonkiness of the sound.. I think it has alot to do with making funky music, with kind of a wonky / off / almost dissonant melody.. for example, you start playing a melody, (often with a square wave - but doesnt have to be) and people think it's going in one direction, and then all of a sudden one of the notes just rises an extra octave or two, and the next note is just clashing.. <<That's just ONE example, you can do it lots of different ways, but just don't forget about being Wonky! ha. >> http://glitchhopforum.com/glitch-hop-music/purple-glitch-wonky-funk-t10626.html I like artists such as Joker, Ginz, some Joy Orbison.. In hip hop, when you hear talk of purple, often they're talking about codeine / syrup / 'lean' / purple drank...and also chopped 'n' screwed music, which is kind of like a soundtrack for purple drank, created by DJ Screw, a DJ from Texas who made TONS of mixes of rap songs with a heavy heavy purple influence... (Anyone who's drank lean and then listened to DJ Screw will likely agree w/ me on that) ..

and then there's the purple funk music from the early 80s. It's synthy, often employs use of vocoders and talkboxes, and if you're familiar with early electro, that's often part of it.. So, I kind of feel like incorporating elements from any of these styles can help you create a nice funky purplish sound. There's obviously overlap, anyway. No reason to stifle yourself creatively, when going for the purple! You see the word 'crunk' a lot more in electronic music now, even though that came from hip hop, for example. So anyway, there's the purple electro-funkishness, the crunk'd purple drank hip hop chopped n screwed stuff, and the modern ravey dubstep or post-dubstep Jokery square wave funk stuff, which often incorporates the hip hop and electrofunk stuff. And, again, there's lot of crossover, and nothing has to be taken EXTREEEEMMMEELY seriously, cuz it's all for fun anyway.

I had heard Joker before and I really like many of his tracks, but I dont recall ever hearing about purple before. After listening to Strangeflow's tracks I have come to the conclusion that purple is sort of like this:
