Where a good majority of the users on this board are engaged in making/performing their music enough that they have little time to discuss it. Been a bit slow on here lately. Lots of new people on here though, maybe they will step up and start the conversations/ share the techniques of tomorrow....

And congrats guys, in little over a year I have seen so many of you progress that it warms my heart. Lots of success stories on this board.

i think people are around, ive noticed there havent been as many posts lately, but i don't know, i think that might be how it goes sometimes... people get busy.. there will be a wave of postings, and then for a week or two not so much, and then sooner or later you start to see people hella posting again. people on this forum have other things to do, other hobbies / jobs, friends, etc, but im sure it'll pick up. there's been more interest in glitch hop now than last year, the year before, etc. u know?

I agree, and am guilty too... Busy life gets in the way. I also think people are away tinkering at that NEW sound we will get blown away by!
I think this forum needs an INTRODUCE YOURSELF section so newcomers can breach the intimidating first post, see who's been here and how long.
As the topics on here can be quite daunting, as some of us go REEEAAAAAL deep into stuff when we're asked.

I think it just needs to stay friendly whilst informative, and yeah, its also a big year ahead. It all comes in waves...

Doood. Ive found it to be kind of clicky on here. I LOVE this place, Seen a lot of cool artists blossom from here. Met a lot of the Nor cal cats personally. And I love reading all the archives of info. BUT...

Not just myself but I have seen other new members/members who dont post often get there questions and comments ignored by regulars. Gotta show some love if we want to keep this place active. speaking of,

Digging what ShifteQ said tho.

re: illfaded

Mochi is definitely known to be beyond cool, a real nice cat.

Just FYI everyone probably knows exactly who you are talking about as far as the other person mentioned goes. Not cool. Too many details buddy. Probably not the best idea, your post is prob about to get modded anyway though.

thats a good point man. and since illfaded is gonna quote me earlier, im gonna respond by saying i often try to say hello to newcomers on this forum. im sure i miss some, but i try to be positive.. didnt mean to ignore your song on that occupy thing btw Ill, i just missed it.. but yea, i feel like this forum has a TON of positivity, generally. (Have you been to dubstepforum?? kinda a different story..)

and yea, there are the occasional douche-bags, that happens.. but ive met tons of cool peeps on here. i still think this is a totally useful forum, most ppl who post on here alot will def attest to that... the good outweighs the bad, overall, IMO.

i remember trying to plan a move outwest, and i got TONS of feedback about the cool parts of cali, the not so cool parts, best areas to get food, best places to club, nicest areas, shittiest areas, cheapest, most expensive, etc etc etc... it was VERY helpful, so ivee been coming back to this board everyday or so.. but if you really hate it on here, ya don't have to post ;) i dont know bout it being especially clicky. i have a few friends i talk to more than others, cuz they're friends... but ill talk to anyone, and love makin new friends :D :D :)

forums are funny...they seem to have a natural biorhythm, just like people...they go up and down and there does not seem to be a whole lot anyone can really do about it...welcoming new ppl seems like one lil thing you can do to bring back a fading forum...

my homebase for years was the looperman forum, for a while it was flying..when a new person signed in theyd get 20 welcomes and a bunch of listens and reviews to their shit, and it was welcoming....still, a bunch (of fux) started complaining about functionality of the site and the forum and all this bs... so they did a total site overhaul, and now its dead city, such a drag, that forum was jumpin with friendly comps and challenges, tech help, debates and all kinds of stuff...anyway...i guess it will rise again...but it takes time and a few dedicated users to usher in a new age...

agree with the welcome section, I admit I'm not always perfect at welcoming the new folk, easy bad habit to just stay in the comfort zone of people you know. gonna keep this in mind in the future because as people have said, its a priority to keeping things breathing.

also, I've learned more about production on here than ANYWHERE on the net. we have had some true dons come thru and drop serious knowledge in the production forum. might require a little digging but its all there. one thing I did like on in DSF we're there production Bibles. I spent one night compiling a document with links to free samples on it, never really ran with it though. could be useful if a few of us spent some time compiling some gems.

As far as the inactivity, I think there are a lot of little misunderstandings also cropping up. So I kind of want to explore that a bit...

So this is a production forum as well as a genre forum. There are DJs on here, there are established producers on here, there are people who are just getting in to creating, there are people who are just seeking new sounds and there are also promoters looking to network and set up parties. That is all beautiful, every one of those people have a place here.

What I think is getting lost is that all of those people are personally getting something different out of this site. And not every one of those people is interested in the same thing you are necessarily, other than it somehow being related to "glitch hop".

So specifically, regarding new members being "ignored". I think this doesn't have any sort of basis. There are countless people on here making incredible production gains. If you go on mine, or simmerdowns, or StrangeFlows or Bleep Bloops soundcloud or posts on this board there are tons of notes of feedback, technical and subjective alike. TONS. All of us were new at one time or another and the reason I think some people get more feedback than others is that we are realistic in what were doing here... and we know how to "play the game" so to speak.

None of us made a first post here and expected everyone in the Glitch Mob to give us an HJ. What we did was listen to the other artists and responded to their work and joined in the existing discussions. Then, we _personally_ reached out to eachother to further our own goals but only _after_ taking the utmost care and respect to what everyone else is trying to get out of this board.

So I don't think new members are being "ignored". You have to realize tunes get posted on this board more than anything else, and personally I have always thought that if someone took the time to listen and give constructive feedback it is a gift. No one is entitled to that. You shouldn't feel like you are entitled to that. What you SHOULD do is review other artists work, and if the motive for it is really to get reviews on your stuff that is fine, ask if they can check out your work. In my experience people are more likely to care about you if you care about them.

But I mean... Shifteq is an amazing artist and is coordinating a compilation EP. Mochipet still posts here. Ill.Gates still posts here. Samples still posts here. Bleep Bloop posts a ton. Ill-Esha still posts here. Freddy Todd still posts here. Ionik... DJ Great Scott... GalaxC Girl... Dewey... All of these artists are really rooted in the "scene" and have huge followings, and still communicate on this board! So I dunno, I don't understand this notion of "dead". To me it seems like there is a lot going on, but perhaps not everybody is interested in all of it?

Am I off base here? Thoughts?

no you're not. you're completely on base on this.

this forum is not dead, thats completely ridiculous! lol.. and frankly, hearing someone say that it is dead shows they aren't really taking time to see how lively this forum really is a lot of the time. its still very lively, just because it's not hopping for a minute or whatever doesnt mean it's dead.

on another note...

yea man, i remember a few of us talking about something like that a few months back or somethin. its a good idea. a big fuckpile of samples! would be great. Maybe it could be open forum and people could add to it after its got a good foundation. ive got tons of samples, im sure you do too, im sure half the people on here do too.. ya know what i think ill just PM ya cuz this i just realized this is slightly off topic, now that i think about it hahaha.

[quote="simmerdown"lowkey[/quote]

not exactly a stock ticker flying by, but the content is rich!

that other site i mentioned was pretty much all about reviewing other peoples stuff, i wrote over 1500 track reviews, and im not talking back-pats and twitters, like indepth shit (when i could)...

but we always said, if you have 1/2 as many reviews in as you have written out, you are doing great...on soundcloud, i think that ratio is even way lower...but stuff that is supergreat will get tons of comments without the artist writing any

wtf tangent have i gone off on, idk, lol...puffpufftypetypetype

Well my experiment worked. Post a thread that its dead, and everyone crawls out to prove otherwise. GHF will never die. (Until there is a worldwide electric power collapse, and we cannot power our lappys/MIDI controllers)

You know, i think about this a lot. I've always wanted to find another domain name that is more all encompassing of the forward thinking bass movement. At the time we created this that was glitch hop. But now it is so much more. Domains are always hard as fuck to find, but i am definitely open to suggestions.
