Hey there,

I moved to Victoria about a month ago and I'm looking for some gigs. I don't know anyone here at all and I'm not old enough to go to clubs, so online is the only way I can start making contacts with promoters etc. So is there anyone out there who could help me get into the scene by either introducing me to the right people, or offering me a slot somewhere?

Here's a link to my promo mix, I play Glitch Hop/Breaks/Dubstep

Also even if you don't live in Vic, anyone have any suggestions on how to break into the scene while still underage?

Cheers, Misha Valentine (MiishMash)

is the underage rave scene strong in BC? i know Denver has massive raves that are primarily all ages or 16+. Lots of the younger Djs start there. that only works if your cool w not getting paid and playing at 7pm on the 5th stage tho. ;)

Where I was living before, the Kootenays, the rave scene was tight. Pretty much every weekend there was a raves and some of them were just massive, with such headliners as Excision and Datsik, Subvert, pretty much the entire IGU and many others.

Hey, I live in Victoria myself and I run seasonal shows as well as a renegade art stage and we can def meet up and discuss what's going on with this scene. Possibly book you at a few shows. How good are you with spontaneous music making?

Kind of like a flash mob/dj set up. Just setting up a portable rig I have and playing in random areas of Victoria.

Oh man, I would be so down with doing something like that! Ever since I saw that Glitch Mob video I've always wanted to do it, except I didn't have the equipment.

Hey there guys. I as well live in victoria and have been playing Dnb on the island for a little under a decade and with my recent switch to serato I have begun to play glitch(effin love it)).

I am already involved in doing some of these flash mob kind of things. We don't have a generator so basically we wander around town with my buddies Itch (ugggg) and throw little renegades wherever we can find a power outlet - behind thrifty's, bastion square, bandstand at beacon hill. I would love to get together with some like minded folk and jam the fuck out.

Anyhoo add me up on FB : Mas On

Word, good to hear. I'm also doing a free show this weekend at Sombrio beach. Feel free to bring your gear and rock out. I'll be there for friday and saturday possibly sunday. Pretty much just going to be open decks.

I totally failed on this recently. I wish I'd gotten the chance to come and do something with you. Didn't realize you were leaving so soon Miishmash. We'll have to hook it up in the future when you roll on back. Or when I head that way next.

As for being too young, honestly - get over it. I had to miss a shitload of awesome shows when I was younger and I assume that goes for most of the people on this board as well. I'm not saying that I don't feel your pain, but shit. Either do your own shows where you want em, find the right people and do it up proper or just wait your turn. The reason a lot of these shows are in age limited clubs is because they are credible businesses with liability insurance and because most promoters aren't in to doing all ages shows anymore because of hordes of teenagers doing cocktails of drugs and ending up in the hospital. You know who the cops come down on? It sure as hell isn't the kids that ended up there. It's the promoters and businesses.

Just sayin.
