and i really am clueless as to where to start with this. i've been producing for like a year now, got some solid tunes, got an effective DJ setup. problem is, i got minimal exposure, hype, gigs, groupies, semi automatic weapons, etc. i want to get out and start doing the thing. i just turned 21 so i dont feel too behind in the game. this whole underground music industry thing is sort of intimdating in a way, and i live in a pretty small ski resort town which doesnt really have a glitchhop scene (aspen, co). basically, i jsut want some advice/knowledge/sagedom on the whole issue of being more than a bedroom DJ. how to break out of the cave and eat. this is pretty vague question, so take or give whatever you can from this...

thanks team

nothin but :heartpump:

if you're close enough to boulder or denver they got solid scenes. i'm sure there's a weekly out there that you can send a mix to. plus... just send mixes to bars around aspen... people are nicer than you think. you get a gig and one person shows up... then two... then four and so it goes. also you got a pretty solid tourist scene in aspen i assume? what are all those fools doing at night? i'm sure if you were persistent enough and friendly enough you could build up to a couple pretty fun nights out there!
best of luck

Get on our message board, www.sidewaysfive.net

All the glitch promoters in town are there, and it's a great place to post mixes and get your name out.

you're in CO the mecca of glitch hop right now I'd say.
big up to DBS... so much talent there, Cali, and CA.
i literally had to plan an event to even get a chance to hear glitch hop let alone play since no one into this where I'm from

good luck dude!

start promoting an event with some friends / get involved with people running local dubstep / similar nights, hard work but once your involved with the right people / make the right friends its suddenly not so daunting.

Your best bet is gonna be Boulder and Denver for getting most gigs... the scenes in the resort towns themselves were kinda tough when I lived out there.

We threw some ragin house parties though. I was able to get a weekly at a very small bar in Breckenridge for the two seasons I lived there. It was extremely hit or miss, but the owner was cool and didnt care how many people came in.

If you are lucky enough to find a small bar that doesnt necessarily care about how many people you can bring in (cause midweek in a ski town can vary from poppin to nada from week to week depending on what events, holidays and festivals are going on) see if they'll do a good drink special and try to get the locals into what you spin. By the time I moved out of Breck we had two electronic weeklies (one was a DnB weekly on thurdays with $2 Irish Carbombs and $2 Depth Charges that got messy) and had a few one offs.

Find the other DJs in town (I guarantee there's a couple, snowboarders spin ;) ) and join forces if they're down. Do some keggers, talk to some bar owners, get a little something going... it was a bit of a battle to convert some of those heads, but it was fun. I miss ski towns.

Look into trying to do some on mountain stuff too... one of my favorite gigs to this day was playing on the deck at Arapahoe Basin in the sun, speakers pointed at the lot and the lifts, people jammin to dnb on the mogul runs. Talk to guest services for the mountain and see who runs the promotions and who you would need to get in touch with. Check the local radio station too, maybe they'll let you do a late-night thing.
