So it seems this year has been the year of the underground rejecting brostep. This is an interesting thing to me.
Personally I feel brostep and glitchhop share many similarities, but I can also understand why brostep is not favoured by the old hats.

it seems like the number one issue is that brostep has diluted it's sound and has succesfully caught the attention of the masses, brostep is an "it" word now, you neighbours, paperboy and grocery bagger know about this brostep phenomenon.

And now that the genre has found it's audience, flocks of producers are trying their hand at the flavour of the month sound.

my question to you guys is, are all these examples enough reason to write off an entire genre of music?

personally i don't think so. We didn't write off hiphop when Vanilla Ice went platinum, we didn't write off rocknroll when Coldplay decided they were going to be Coldplay.

what i'm saying. give brostep a chance. it's new. there will be someone who will take it to where it needs to go..

i think it cuts deep to the hipster in all of us when we're a part of something cool, exclusive, underground, etc and then see it on MTV.

most of the hating seems to be in jest, though.

but it's not a reason to write it off. hell, most brostep is pretty fucking cool, but it's hardly as broad of a genre as rock or hiphop, though.

i think we should all just ride it out and hang ourselves the day we hear brittany spears singing over a glitch backing track. :)

i dunno. basically i agree is what i'm saying...

Everyones always complained about it, just as long as Caspa and Rusko have been around. Jump up Dubstep/Stupid Midrange cack/Brutal Electro Patch on Massive.

16bit and koan sound got the sound perfected years ago. Now the whole 'scene' is just mundane full of copycat sounds, thats usually the exact point when the general public gain interest.

Move to Sweden then, mate. I don't know why, but it seems quite big here. And hipsters crowd the streets. Lovely. I need to move the fuck away soon. :troll:

Why, yes. Yes we do. Unfortunately. Maybe our police brutality is a bit less harsh than yours, but hey, who wants to compete 'bout that anywho? It's a lovely place to visit, but not so fun to live in. But I guess that goes for any place you go, if you stay there to long.

alternatively, would you guys stop listening to glitchhop if some kid altered it into a mainstream accessible version?

would that be enough to wreck your ability to listen to it. or would it just effect your choices in what you would play/producer at shows?

I don't think people who listened to dubstep before brostep stop listening to dubstep just because brostep exists. I think what they're mad about (most of the time) is that people don't know brostep as brostep--they know it as dubstep, so kids are going around saying "I love dubstep" talking about Skrillex, Excision, etc when those guys actually are very far from the aesthetic/ideals of "original" dubstep.

Once a friend of mine said Vibesquad's track Cling was "like brostep without the energy". I think there are a lot of other differences (Cling is funky as hell, for example) but sure, sometimes glitch hop does sound like brostep. Both styles use a lot of big synths and big drums and not tons of layering of melodic elements. So it kinda comes down to what you like and where you draw the line, if you feel the need to draw one. +verb once noted there are a lot of glitch hop producers who are basically making brostep and disguising it as glitch hop... this is true.

I personally almost never play anything at 70bpm (or 140 halftime, however you wanna think about it) because everyone fuckin else does it and I like to keep it more uptempo/funky anyway. But this topic is sooooooo tired...

true words. :fire:

except your friend's summation of vibesquad being some sort of energyless brostep.... i mean really, kid's got a hell of a nerve to utter such fallacies!

I love it except that I cant get rid of this image of digital barking decimator dogs, like a big one barking and then a smaller one. LOL
To me thats what most of it kind of sounds like.

I feel like making an animation of it, just to give you the idea XD
