This is possibly the dumbest thing I have heard. Really? Do police officers not have real criminals to find in Australia? Are there not real laws to enforce there against things like rape and murder? Do we really want them to be some sort of morality police?

the fine for swearing is $240, roughly the same fine as for speeding in Australia.

Difference is, speed kills some, swearing offends only offends offensive idiots.

The "swear jar" fine will unfairly target young people, ones who are probably already picked on by cops, and ones who are probably poverty stricken too. I mean, it's more kids and street crowd who swaer, right? We're one step closer to being a police state, even closer then america is.

It's just a bit lofty that the state government can create a whole law based around the concept that they are preventing further anti-social behavior of those who are having a few drinks and going out. If someone is going to assault someone else, etc, risk of a swearing fine ISN'T going to stop them.

@Blitchy - I have heard of people getting fired because of things on facebook but mostly because they lied and pictures of them partying show up (which i thin is deserved..)

If you're just talking about something that has nothing to do with your work then it is none of their business

if you add your boss to facebook then post a status like "man my boss is a big jerk off" or something then yeah. or you call in sick and your boss finds photos of you partying the night before.

but in my case my boss wasn't on my friends list, she threatened a 3rd party and got a print out of my page where i said something along the lines of "god damn i work with some stupid people" -- tbh thats pretty underhanded and fuck a company that thinks they can just go on facebook and get dirt on you anytime they want. as i said, no one should be allowed to control our throughts, and what are status updates, anything more than expressing thoughts?
