Tired of the same old breakbeat? Wish you could come up with something a little more... experimental? Try these tricks on for size. This video goes into some very basic beat loop editing techniques that I use to program a good break beat.

wow, you are my hero. much love! quick question -- how would automating the tempo effect the tempo of your track overall? would it throw it off a bit? this video just reminded me how versatile this software is and how easily i get stuck into the same production techniques. i wish i just could clone myself so experiment with ableton all day and have my other clones do all the tedious stuff in life! ha. thanks again.

Automating the tempo won't do anything crazy with the track overall as long as all of the audio loops that fall within the area that you're automating are set to "warp". This will allow the loops to stretch to any tempo that you set.

You could probably do some cool stuff by having one loop (say... a lead) that isn't warped. Loop that over and over as you slow the rest of the track down. Slow the track down to 1/2 it's normal speed, and suddenly the lead will be back in sync but twice as fast... May be cool for a bassline too...
