Not sure what it's like in the US, but the 'brostep' you hear there is pretty much hated in most 'respected' circles. i.e not a student night where they'll blend it with lady gaga and not batter and eyelid.

Dubstep is very much still going.

Not including the latest variants such as 'future garage'.

Luckily I live near Bristol so the overall attitude is more forward thinking then uber stoopid party tunes. Theres certainly a time and a place for the wobbles though: Glitch Hop Forum

Brostep... just the sound of that is bad

it makes me think of all the "bros" out here in California with their DC shoes, and their "Fallen" baseball caps with that "F" logo, and their "Tapout" or "Skin" t-shirts, and their stock lifted trucks in the city with yet another Fallen sticker on the back window! maybe we could put them with all their energy drinks and sports channels on an island where they can sit and listen to their old Metallica cd's on repeat and not have to plague the rest of the world with their very presence

I really do hate 'em...

might I ask though... what is brostep?? i'm getting in my mind that it's that boring dubstep that i hear alllllll the time out here in cali? same old dubstep drum rhythm, same old sawtooth bass wobble sound

or am I incredibly off?

I define it like this.
Squooze the bigness

Dubby dubstep

Purple Dubstep (bristol sound, check kapsize and punch drunk for this melodic type of stuff)

Stadium Dubstep ( )

Radio Dubstep (mid 90's tarncestep)

Brostep

House

Super hip neo post future garage

LOL ROFL!!!

I never got the term "brostep" but here we just call it "cheap annoying wobbles by 14yearolds and morons".

@compact: if you want luvstep, check this out..
Roqqert is from Holland, this track is amazing! (he doesn't have soundcloud tho)

^ thanks dude, pretty good sound for sure. my favorite dubstep lately is Loops Haunt & Robot Koch type stuff... super groovey.

so to clear this up? is the track the op posted brostep or what? if not wtf is? because this is the shit that I here ALL the time (I like it usually) and all the bro's usually love it as long as there is a vocal now and again. ?

Good production.
Tho I wouldn't call it luvstep, or any -step for that matter imo.

i beg to differ. endless blogs are labeling them as poster boys of luvstep. they are right up there with the best in the game. to me that is (and in no particular oder):

synkro
faltydl
joy orbison
mount kimbie
untold
james blake

and that is just a few doing this sound.

my understanding is that luvstep is in essence, dubstep, but without the broey-ness of today, and with a strong focus on musicality and syncopation.

with that said, i hate labeling music. music is either bad or good to my ears. but genres are needed for marketing.

how do you define luvstep? i am curious.

ppl, do correct me if i am totally wrong.

Untold tune is mad!

But my impression of this whole "future garage" buissness was more sort of this stuff, with the garagey change ups:

Luvstep: for me is basically tender, soulful dubstep, the kindo tracks that you could literally play while making love :P.

(in technical terms it means most likely: no wobbles, no hard synth leads, no banging kicks and snares. more rhodes, warm stuffs, female vox, woodblock snares, rim-shots and a truckload of emotion poured into it)

Phaeleh - Lounge (gives me goosebumps)
Lung - Afterlife
Roqqert - Give it

http://soundcloud.com/phaeleh/phaeleh-lounge-surface-tension

http://soundcloud.com/lung/afterlife-clip

I find these tracks really pinnacles of production, it's not easy for a track to match that criteria.

edit: Oh and I would place that track you posted more near Flying Lotus / Martyn -like things

Luvstep is even lamer then brostep for a title. But if it annoys the brosteppers then that cool.

Most of the 'new' fact magazine hipster stuff is just house/garage.

That's more like it :)

(good track btw, I like it) still a bit loud/raw for luvstep imo.
