my favourite saturation is the one in kontakt, but since i make my bass in alchemy, massive and circle it seems kind of annoying to have to bounce and load it in there.. anyone recommend some good saturation plug-ins for mac?

Vintage Warmer is my goto if i want to warm something up a little, ive been trying not to use it so much recently but allways cave in and end up with at least one in a track.

I also sometimes use the in house ableton saturator, normally more as a distortion than to warm things up though.

inaudible in pretty on point. i tend to use live's default myself. i just picked up ozone about a week ago, i'm not familiar enough with it yet, but you might be able to use the exciter in there for this??? and i have heard colortone is pretty good for a free plug-in.

http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/downloads.php/id/3730/software/ColorTone/

edit: link above didn't allow me to dl the free version, poke around on google if interested...

edit 2X: ozone does have a nice saturation. i'll prob be using this and live's. no need to take up valuable hard drive space with more plug-ins imo.

Nebula is hands down one of the best go-to plugs for saturation. Especially with the tape bansk by cdsoundmaster.

Brilliant value, too.

Nebula always finds itself on my tracks - the reverbs, preamp and tape saturation can't be beat.

EDIT: Just remembered, the EQ's are great too, but clunky and painful to use... one instance of the plugin per each band (!!)

I'm mac so not sure if this helps, but I use these:

Schaack Audio - Transient Designer (AU) - not super ugly, but way dope for parallel compression on stuff, or drum thickening

Massey - Tapehead (AU) - DOPE! - http://www.smassey.com/au.html

also use Cyanide for distortion and colouring and the native Preamp Plug in DP comes in handy for lots of natural sources (just turned some cello into full-on gastric catastrophe).

ummm. . .yeah.

ima go the easy way out, and suggest you look inside what you already have: the logic distortion effects can yield great saturation on sounds if used sparingly.

i also enjoy psp vw2 and camel phat. but seriously, in ableton i always have a hipass and a saturator set up on a return. and i send so much shit to it. lol. if done properly it gels everything together nicely and warms them shits up. often ill have ANOTHER return with a lowpass filter and a saturator too. send the sub to this beast and mix back in w/ the source while watching for phase issues. probably absolutely wrong what i am doing, but it truly sounds good to my ears.

So, is this URS Saturation plug (actually, my current fave):

PSP Vintage Warmer 2 is great. I even like the Ableton Live one.

the ableton sat. plugin works wonders for me. the analog clip with a little drive is just sexy. the waveshaper is crucial for more unique distortion. "soft clip" button is adds an analog clip setting on the output, i auto-click that a lot which may or may not be a good thing.

guitar rigs has some great amps which can heat up a sound nicely.

After my recent meanderings around the net, I came apon a solution to assist you with experiencing the joy of Nebula.

http://redirectingat.com/?id=690X1299&u ... 2Fvstau%2F

That's a link for an au to vst wrapper. I'm advised it works with Nebula. Maybe worth giving the demo a try to confirm?

might as well also point out that blue tubes analogue trackbox is on sale for only $15 at audiomidi.com

http://audiomidi.com/Blue-Tubes-Analog- ... 12838.aspx

and yes vintage warmer is the shit. just wish it didnt add so much latency to the tracks
live's saturator is pretty damn handy, probably one of my most used plugins

there's also nice saturation on redline's EQ

antares used to make a plugin called Antares Tube. If you can find it on the warez circuit, grab it

also, certain instrument plugins come with fx units that allow you to use their internal saturation algorithms. An example of this would be Zebrify by U-he

For the most part, I try to only have a couple of any given plugin, but saturation is one of those things I love. Of course, which plugin depends on it's character and what it is that I'm saturating...

I recommend:

-Vintage Warmer
-Ohmicide (used judiciously)
-Stillwell Bad Bus Mojo (again, subtly)
-Massey Tape Head AU
-Crysonic nXtasy
-Nebula AU
-Scream (for you reason users)
-Various Amp Sims; I'm pretty partial to amplitube stuff, especially the fender edition.

etc, etc, etc....

OF course, there's always hardware for saturation too! :D

+1 for Massey Tapehead! Really loving it since I brought it into the fold last month.

- also use nXtasy for some stuff every now and then. Nice on snares for a bit of extra splatter/bile

Yeh, nice to be able to control the harmonic content to get more heft, wood, or bite.
