It's my turn to ask a sound design question!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sxOi7JwvP4

This sound is very similar to the arp in the beginning of Sub Focus' "Let the Story Begin"

Likely the same concept and waveforms.. I'm thinking PWM, but haven't been able to nail it. But what's going on there with that sound? Filter cutoff envelope?

take is awesome. so underrated.

good call on the PWN. i think there's 2 oscs in there, one tuned an octave lower at a lower volume to give it more beef the the sound. good bit of volume modulation as it pans around. slight LP filter modulation which helps to move it to the back of the stereo field, not too much though. tad bit of tasteful distortion. thought i heard some resonance in the filter come up at certain points. reverb! big reverb which seems to have a very slight 1/4 note delay before it. sounds like he resamples it at certain points and reverses the sample fore more melodic texture.

Can you make a Massive patch of this, or Sylenth? I tried that stuff and while I came close, didn't quite score the same sound.

If you want the patch and don't want to create it yourself, go surf for a preset pack or something that has something close. Or just sample it.

I don't care so much about having the preset. I just want the know-how. The closest I've been able to get on my own and with ionik's advice isn't close enough, and I'm usually really good at this kinda thing.

seems like the timbre is off, maybe try messing with different styles of oscillators with the other parts that contributed to helping the sound.
