I understand:

2-3 saw oscillators

detune
portamento
notch filter
bandpass filter
distortion
lfos
split frequencies
slight plate reverb sometimes

BUT -

I can not quite get the movement in the lead. Any tips.

Example approved to be posted by the bawce Seied!

Thanks for all and any tips yo!!

Nasty

hmmm,... off the top of my head,...

its keytracked so make sure you have that switched on.

sounds like theres a chorus or two of some sort on there too, perhaps automated, or key tracked as well?

try to play around with your chain, move tings back and forward as that sometimes makes a big difference to the sound.

get into additive synthesis. alchemy is my fave. there are so many cool little knobs that can be automated with an lfo to create movement. stuff like pitch variation, number of oscillators, and there's an x/y sort of control so you can actually have the sound move between the different oscillators or different combinations of them.

i use alchemy. it is rather dope. alchemy, sylenth, zebra, circle, and BLUE are my go to beasts. sometimes albino. i can make a fucking mean lead. i just have trouble getting it to swirl, sear, move, beat, etc etc. tried chorus, phasing, detuning, list goes on! this is a case of the sound being 80 percent what i hear in my head. really just trying to get it at 100 percent recreation of whats inside my dome.

i've found in a few instances that you need to back off the low pass to get the swirl. if you've heard the synth in "Simplify and Diversify" up in my "Creation Mix 1" the swirl completely disappears if i low pass that shit too much (not a shameless plug either, just an example). fuck with some delays as well.

edit: keeping in mind that delays are just various filters, thanks for that lesson bishop. ;)

that's what i'm saying though.. do you go deep into automating the internal oscillator parameters in alchemy? and automating movement back and forth between each oscillator? making four similar but different ones and then putting an lfo or an envelope to automate between 1/3 and 2/4 or 1-2-3-4... endless

Sometimes to get those "searing" movements I'll use different layers of the sound playing the same notes. Like in that tune Tear This Up I sent you - that's actually just 2 different patches I made in Massive, each one is 2-3 Oscilltaors with LFO's and automation running through it. I did use portamento and some detuning, chorus/flange, distortion - you name it. I just add and take away sounds as I like, or don't like, where it's going.

Then I just put one of top of the other and they sort of get that sound you liked. After that I just EQ and automate some more stuff to taste - I try not to get too out of control, but just enough to where I like how it is sounding.

If any of you are on soundcloud I didn't send that too hit me up if you're interested in hearing it - i've also got a 320 on the interwebs somewhere - just send me a PM.

its a great track man i enjoyed it quite a bit (has many plays in my itunes). and yes, that is the exact movement i am looking for. i layer everything else, thus i am surprised that i never thought about layering very similar saw leads like you have explained. thanks for the tip yo! keep it large player!

Resampling is pretty straight forward.

Render your bassline. Add fx, eq, whatever to it. render again. over and over and over until you have a ton of different basslines with different treatments to each. Then layer and mix to your liking.
