Honestly who cares. If you like it you like it. Doesn't matter if you're using the same vengeance risers or drums. If it fits it fits and you shouldn't use something else just to try to force yourself to not use it because it's vengeance even though it's the perfect fit.

I've designed many risers but sometimes I don't feel like making one. I'm in a flow, shit's getting laid down, so I run through a library of risers and one fits, it goes in and I move onto the next thing. If later down the road you realize you can make one that fits better, then do it. If that one works, use it... Who gives a shit. The people that care are the people that are too busy hating on you rather then making their own music.

There's sounds I'm so tired of, but I won't hate on people using them - cause they might be a good fit for that track so I don't blame them. They might not be that tired of it though and they might love the track so, great for them. And as someone pointed out, no one knows or gives a shit where the sounds came from as long as the song is good except for other producers potentially. If you're producing for producers, good luck.

For example, Skrillex has tons of haters and uses those yoi yoi wah wah sounds and vengeance samples that everyone's so sick of. You know who those people are that are so sick of them, hates him, and bitches about him constantly? Producers... You know who loves him? Millions and millions of people. They could care less where the drums came from, the yoi yoi sound or whatever, or care to even think about it cause they just like his music.

Everyone's always looking for the next best thing and say your samples are so last year or this or that. It doesn't matter, if the sample works, it works - done. I think producers tend to lose site of reality when making music because we are all growing together and using the same tools as they come. So we tend to hear samples / vsts 100x more then the average listener would and then tend to worry about "man will all these people used this, I shouldn't". In the end, just make music that you like to make and use whatever tools you have to make it.

my two cents...

Yep, pretty much exactly what I was getting at. I hate when I talk to another producer and they get all uppity with me because I use drum samples rather than making my drum sounds with a synth or whatever. Why is that even remotely important? That's like hating someone who plays the guitar because they use a Fender and those are popular, LoL. Why must the wheel constantly be reinvented? There's music to be made, damnit! ;)

has anyone noticed the trend in dance music over the last few decades? throw a swoosh to tranny into a new section and call it a day? maybe it's not hte vengeance samples i'm sick of, but the general laziness of this technique. i'm guilty of it too. but i think it should be addressed, esp seeing as glitch hop is one genre that hasn't completely fallen victim to the omnipotent formula gods of other genres.

Hmm, yeah sometimes stylistically it seems transitions are the most interesting part. I mean so much of a song is kind of "standard" and its the FLOW, how a song progresses through its transitions that can be redeeming.

Some producers are real purists and some are less concerned with all the aspects of production and enjoy arranging bits of music together more.

Some are in between. Some change depending on their mood or project.

Both are great fun.

It's all down to personal preference.

Producers are the only ones that REALLY care about the use of a vengeance (or whatever) sample. At the end of the day, the people dancing their asses off in the front row don't give one shit about where your kick drum came from.

Sometimes I go out to just have fun and listen to something that makes me move. Sometimes I go out to listen to someone who has put their all into a craft they love and cherish - they both make me smile.

So what's the problem?....

....Apart from that Modern Talking Yoi Yoi bass, which can royally FUCK OFF :)

the problem is I make music for me, not those the people dancing in the front row, or back row for that matter. and I hear the difference.
