Found this relevant to producing so... here we go:

Glitch Hop Forum

http://soundcloud.com/groups/bassheads- ... ack-circle

**This is a group focusing on IMPROVING our sound.

All track submissions are moderated. Consider this, are you tired of posting tunes for feedback and only get:

"Sick tune!"
"320 please."
etc etc

Well if so then this producers circle is for you. Submissions are moderated.

Your track will get approved only if you have been observed participating in the community actively ie: via posting constructive feedback and interacting with the dialogue on tunes.

Why this group?

I read somewhere that SF bass producer EPROM has a group of 5 or so friends that get together each week and discuss their individual tunes... what works and what doesn't and why... and this is the simple operating premise of this group:

Help each other improve their sound via feedback.

So with this said... hopefully this can be a successful group which helps artists grow. I think it goes without saying:

Please remain professional when providing feedback. We are all adults (or at least we are each wise enough to know how to make music).

RULES-RULES-RULES-RULES-RULES-RULES-RULES-RULES

TUNES THAT QUALIFY:

glitch hop
dubstep
wonky
beats
downtempo
future garage
midtempo

ALL WITH THE EMPHASIS ON BASS!

As a new member you may submit one new track for moderator approval. If you are observed participating in feedback on other people's tunes then you may remain and will be allowed to submit another tune PER INSTANCE OF FEEDBACK ON OTHER PEOPLES TUNES. If you are observed not providing feedback, all your tunes will be removed.

This group will only be as strong as the members in it. Cheers.

+verb

********deleted the soundcloud group. turned out useless. moderating like 10 tracks a day and never having peeps participate.

Just threw a comment up but then had a thought.

I really like the idea but this is the kind of thing id really like to throw early WIPs up on but im a little adverse to the idea of throwing loads of early WIPs up on soundcloud, unless their private, particularly if people with hundreds of followers are posting comments.

I think im going to create another account to use for this group, but yeah im in.

seeign the nature of this group, i think it might be a good idea to close to group to public viewing because i will probably be posting tracks that i wouldnt want just anyone to here. tracks that arent ready to be released to the public yet, etc.

anyways, FUCKIN METAL.

unfortunately there is no way to make a group private on soundcloud, yet (to my knowledge). i am thinking of work arounds, and am open to ideas.

the options thus far are:

1. create a new user account (a hassle though)

2. use the group for only a gathering pool of names with which we share tracks privately to the group. (if the group ever exceeds 100 though this can be a problem for users with a normal account because sharing tracks privately with a free account is capped at 100. the only other downside to this method is: no ability to ban people from groups (to my knowledge). so if you are on there just to check tunes out and not help constructively then how would we govern that?

3. a method i am not even aware of yet

so those are the options... what can we do? if ya come up with something then share. but for now i think if identity is an issue, then a secondary "demo" account might be best.

apparently there are many threads asking soundcloud on their support page to implement a private group feature. above is one of the threads. i can see them charging somehow for it though ahaha. we shall see. they have a feedback button - id say click it and simply write in that ya want private group options. power comes to the collective voice after time...

yeah i went ahead and made the new name... kinda pointless cuz i told everyone on here what it is.. but honestly, it's a pretty trivial problem in the grand scheme.

i had another idea.. we could make a meeting online where the idea of brutal honestly would be the focus. so that could include everything from constructive criticism to "how the fuck did you make that boner-inducing-blip" haha. just a thought. i think we would need at least like 4 people for this.

yea id second that. would be cool to have a chat component or a virtual meetup of some sort every now and then. would have to work with everyone's schedule though.

agreed, i think until the private groups thing is implimented having a different usernams is the best option, dont really fancy my inbox being stuffed with 80 peoples WIPs.

I dont really care about anyone on here or part the group knowing who i am, I just would rather not have 300 odd people who arn't part of the group see loads of critique on tracks under my name.

Another alternative would be to have sub forum / page on here which we could post tracks / secret soundcloud links (although the main problem of this is users would need to have paid for soundcloud accounts), for that reason i still think the alternatue username thing is best at the moment.

i will tell it how it is. part of the reason this group has been created is because i think the one area where GHF fails is with feedback on tunes. it would be quite easy to create another section under the dubs area here which would be closed to public. and we could offer feedback and everything... but for now i am just rolling with the soundcloud group. besides, it is so simple to comment on tunes there anyhow.

Definitely loving the idea!

I think what sucks for me is that I don't always know how to contribute constructive things to people. You guys are fackin ILL already so I don't feel adequate enough to even offer any advice.

i will try my damndest though to offer out what I can! I'd feel like a douchestick if ya'll had something to say about me and all I could say in return was...DOPE TUNE!

dude richard you got some ill stuff man... your opinion is def worthy. also, the feedback doesnt have to be purely technical i wouldn't think. i just hope people wouldn't be afraid to contribute in fear of being wrong or not know enough about production. i think production is a very important part, but gut instincts of other listeners/producers/DJs is what i'm really after.

This sounds like a very neat idea. I would love to join. Gonna make a sound cloud account now.

Once I stop getting destroyed with schoolwork, which should be after this weekend, I'll make a new soundcloud, hit you with a track, and make with the feedbacking. This is a really good idea as I don't know anyone who'll tell me what isn't working even though I have a lot of musician friends and send them rough versions of stuff. I've been trying, when I have time, to put constructive criticism on soundcloud but have been really bad about it lately. Having a group explicitly devoted to eliminating weaknesses in the members' music will definitely bring out my will to comment, especially if I'm getting feedback too.

I think a private "true criticism" subforum here would be smart... maybe it could also require approval to get access, so our private soundclouds/megaupload links/whatever wouldn't be open to anyone who registers for an account? The soundcloud group sounds good for now, but the subforum might be a more controllable long-term solution.

And props to +verb for starting this. Take note, people: if we get behind this (I swear, after midterms I will be all over it like nobody's business) it will be a hugely valuable resource.

I would be very interested. Unfortunately I don't have any work to present myself but I am currently working on it. School seems to always get in the way :P

what would the alternative to soundcloud be? that allows such flexible commenting rather than having to type the times?

i think google wave could come in handy here. and then just posting tracks on whatever web host we choose. then we can comment in the wave. i also think that the soundcloud thing will continue to grow, and be useful for many people. i think google wave could be the forum for the producer's chat and what not that was mentioned. assuming that google didnt abandon the wave for what the fuck ever the buzz is...
