Hey, I'm Very Much a N00b with this form of music so bear with me on this one.

I've just come across granular synthesis and find it very intriguing.
I know its used a bunch In dance tracks to get those real glitchy percussive elements.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to getting the sounds I want maybe?

Here's an old excision track that has what I want to create.

Thanks a load

So it's been a extremely fucking long since I've messed around with granular synthesis (going on years and years). Let me try to break down the basics for you, but please if anyone sees anything erroneous with my post call me out as I'm 100% sure I could use a refresher too.

*Grains basically consist of tiny sections of audio (measured in ms) and envelopes which prevent clicks, clipping, etc at either end of the audio

*Multiple groups of grains called streams can be used to create a single texture

*When used properly, granular synthesis allows you to create textures by layering grains or streams. You can also tweak parameters to drastically change the characteristics of the sound. Many parameters exist in granular synthesis that are not found elsewhere due to the unique nature of it as a way of generating sound and sonic texture.

unfortunately right now (it's late) I don't remember too much more than that.
However I can point you in the right direction to get all the information you need to get the sound you want.
Searched my bookmarks to find this resource. As I remembered, the vast majority of material related to granular synthesis is quite dense.

DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!

this website links to a number of articles and websites related to granular synthesis. If you get overwhelmed by how dense a particular article is, try another one. Chances are you can find one at a level you can understand.

Chances are Excision doesn't use Granular. He might to get his mids doing some silly stuff in his latest tracks, but I highly doubt it was used in that first one.

That sounds like normal massive modulation thanks to it's performer' lfos.

Don't over complicate things with advanced synthesis. Most likely that your peers stick to the basic stuff and just learn in inside out. Or smash the shiz out of those presets.

Secret to Excision is heavy distortion and lots of phasing. Good case in point is those lovely gurgles you hear throughout this tune
