Throwing it out to see if anyone has a solid technique....I've been working on warping an acapella for three or four hours and I know there is a simpler way.....How do I translate a good warp point to the rest of the sample? Any help appreciated...

I did Superstition by Stevie Wonder a couple weeks ago and I did it by lining up the acapella and the original track in arrange view and then going along that way. If the acapella is from a track that has a constant tempo because it's electronic or whatever, that should be easier. Put a beat on in the background, set your warp point as close to the one as you can, warp from here at x bpm, then move that point until it matches up. And check the end too to make sure it's consistent.

The_woofs way is cool if you have the original and alot of times I dont.

I like to use Live 7 instead of 8 for acapellas. I admit I dont have 8 and haven't warped with it yet but....

I just find it easier to have the wave form stay in its shape. I think this can be done in 8 with the use of a Modifier key like shift or Alt.

anyway it help warp the thing straight at a close tempo then listen to the words and the phrasing. Try to find the word that get emphasized on the one. and move the marker there. Like james brown "GET up offa that thing DANCE and you'll feel better." (Not a good example of glitch hop but I tried to use an oldie you might know)

It also helps to a a 1-2 bar drum loop playing on another track. Map a mute to it as well so you listen without the drums to set how things are shaping up.

Good luck bro Hope that helps.

I love warping acapellas.

It basically always just comes down to me squinting at the waveform and dragging the beat marker though. No special tricks.

Sometimes it's fun to mess with the timing. Stretch some words a half beat or condense long words to make them shorter. It throws off people who think they know the song and makes things interesting ;)

In arrangement view I usually warp the original track first. This helps you find a good starting tempo for the acapella as well. Then put the acapella on a 2nd track. I then change the pitch slightly on one of the tracks so I can tell the difference between the 2. once I get the starting point right I usually make a marker every 16 bars. Works quite nicely and generally takes 5 minutes a pella, with practice. The key is having an original track for reference, guarantees the pella is locked in.

find the downbeat, which is usually pretty easy
its when the chorus starts

then, find the downbeat 8 bars later and warp the two. usually its an even tempo and warp the whole thing to that tempo

^^^^thats the gist of it.

i also recommend just finding the original on youtube or something, just to hear where the downbeat falls in relation to the vocal. Since theres obviously no kick drum that points to the downbeat, i find that helps to get things on perfectly. Otherwise theres really no difference between warping 'pellas and beats imo
