these are old but can produce some pretty mindwarping sounds... a lot of step sequenced effects:

look how many use Effectrix or artillery  ;)

How many people are going to stop using presets so I cant tell what software and plug-ins you are using?

Fuck, someone owes someone some new monitors.

I have effectrix, but I only use it for the record slowing down thing it can do.

I've found it easier to just manually edit shit and bitcrush or drive it. I've never really been able to get the sound I want with vsts... I've only used effectrix and supatrigga to be fair, but I don't think I even have supatrigga installed anymore.

And Dewey, you forgot one! Ctrl+d, Ctrl+d, Ctrl+d, Ctrl+d, Ctrl+d, Ctrl+d,

In Ableton you can ways right click/apple click an audio file then slice to new midi track, then play around with the order and length.

I love effectrix and dblue glitch, but honestly, I do everything by hand anymore. if i use those VSTs, usually i will flatten the track and make an imprint and then manually glitch it out with my mouse n shit.

the kammerl vsts are amazing btw, great live tools. watch out for looper and slicer causing clipped audio that will set off your peak meters like crazy!

cut and paste + pitch shifting/bending + reversing and panning automation.
oh and rendering hits with short delay times and long feedback, cut that back in.
plug-in wise i like kt granulator and cmt bitcrusher.

Get involved with what your doing and get stuck into your piano roll and do that shit manually. Resample, FX and do it again. Far more satisfying in the long run. You'll teach yourself some new tricks along the way too.

much respect to the manual audio file editors out there! :)

i'm really not throwing down the gauntlet here,
but i'd love to hear what sort of control people are getting from the plug-ins.

can you do this with those?
http://soundcloud.com/vinylblight/vinyl ... -bootycore

done in logic's arrange window.
copy and paste. drag and drop.
all sounds (aside from the booty/porn sample) come from the original tune.

My recent favorite effects to layer glitch flavor on audio clips/vocals are ableton's frequency shifter and corpus (basically a frequency shifter with filter)
You can make lots of interesting pitch shifting automation by just automating dry/wet, or you can get really deep by automating the resonant frequencies!

definetly kontakt with its pitch+time bending capabilities proves some interesting results.

as for ableton users try resample out a loop at double/half the speed then bring it back it and warp it back to normal speed, but play with the warping configurations, theres granulaion options that can cause some wicked sounds...

I dont like using plugins or inserts for creating glitchy sections.

I'll take the long way and write all my automation data, write all the individual notes in midi or into a sequencer or record a synth/drum/whatever part and cut up the .wav file.

As cool as all the plugins/programs are you never have complete control of your final product like you do when kickin' it old school cutting up audio files.

i'm the same. i prefer to edit and mangle audio by hand. but i do use dBlue Glitch a bit but i try to use it "subtly" on vocals and stuff. never overdo it.

I have the feeling I'm going to catch heat over this one but this free plugin has done some pretty interesting things for me as long as the sample I'm running through it sounds good. I mean plugins give you something control will never give you. Randomization. You may want one beat and never find the ones shear luck will find for you one day. But here is the plugin. It's free so give it a try.

http://illformed.org/plugins/glitch/

Take into account it's Windows Only sorry if your running MBP. But hey free is good right?

Heratiki

EDIT: Well just shows you how slow I am. All those referrals to dBlue I never realized you were talking about the same thing as me. Oh well. I contribute nothing I suppose. LOL

I've never used a pluging for glitches.

Usually I record frield/foley sounds, or output of defective gear, maybe buzzes that microphones pick up. Then cut it up.

Then I put shit in sampler, simpler, impluls to do werid stuff with loops etc. / or put it in the timeline and stretch, reverse, pitch, consolidate, cut.

Record.

Then sequence in drum rack.. and rinse and repeat...

I like to put the random beats meter fairly high, bounce a few copies, pick out some parts, rinse and repeat.

A Replicant bus channel bussed to another Replicant bus channel will also do some major Audio Damage.

:blahblah:

Just popped my smilie cherry, wicked.

I like to use MacPOD, a pretty awesome Granular Synthesizer.

http://www.thirdmonk.com/MacPOD.html

I just have the demo but it works for pretty much any sound shorter than 60s. This is the software recommended by Barry Truax, the guy who invented granular synthesis, and can do some suuuupperrr gnarly stretching/reverse. Like, coherently stretching a sample to 5% of its original speed. Not a VST or AU, but easy enough to export a shitton of sounds before a session.

well since no one said it yet: Clitch!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgNp9X2A6Ik

but since we all agree on not being lazy.. go ahead and follow his steps to setting it up and then put your own macro'd fx in there.

and think.. you could just as easily put any one of the fore mentioned vst's inside of that!!!!!!!

short of all the modular programming shit (and duh manual edits are dope too).. this is a nice deep way to "glitch"?

creating my own effects chains and such thru ableton and its Macro devices. and gettin down n dirty and manually creating the glitch... If u think about it... dBlue and Effectrix and Malfunction incorporate the same effects primarily, so why not just do em urself...?

wanted to bump this thread, wondering if anyone else has any interesting things to say, since its been a couple years..

i like making a beat, having it on loop for a minute or two, then with ableton, making a track out of it where i fuck around with echo chambers, filters, buffer overide, other tweaking out method, and doing this a few times, creating a few tracks of just one beat fucked up in different ways sitting next to the original beat in the sequencer) and inserting them here and there in the sequencer (acid pro for me), trying to give it some variety..

plus, mixing in jungle or breakcore beat bits (maybe 1 second long each) that are super fast, adding them here and there but not changing the backing tempo too much of the slow hip hop break, always fun.

i got a bunch of good plugins from a jungle DJ in like...2006.. and ive added to the arsenal since then ( a lot ) but some of them are still good as far as tweakin beats.. though i hadnt discovered Massive then, but i dont tend to use massive much.

anyone else have any good tricks of the trade for this thread?
