Ableton Live...The basic time-stretching, sample reversing and pitch adjust functions are great for doing manual vocal glitches, interesting drum grooves, etc. It takes more time and patience but it comes out just how you wanted since there is no random element involved and no grid you are forced to stay on. In the end, its faster than dBlue because i usually get some form of mushy garbage i then must process to fix before i get anything i'll actually use with dBlue.

i've been playing around with LiveCut - which is random as hell but can churn out some interesting tweaksauce. i dump its output into a separate audio track and pull out the interesting bits it creates.

I like to put supatrigga on a return channel and then turn up the corresponding send on an acapella. I have also gotten good results with slicing 8 measures of an acapella to a new midi track and then using the midi notes to create stutter effects or just rearranging them to create some funky new pattern.

I dont like using plugins or inserts for creating glitchy sections.

I'll take the long way and write all my automation data, write all the individual notes in midi or into a sequencer or record a synth/drum/whatever part and cut up the .wav file.

As cool as all the plugins/programs are you never have complete control of your final product like you do when kickin' it old school cutting up audio files.

Opening up non-audio files in Cool Edit can create some wicked glitchy sounds that you could cut up and use for percussion or whatever. It works with some data files and other files that it is not capable of reading.

I also use livecut, supatrigga, bouncy, beat repeat in ableton.

I tried Gleetchplug a while back but just couldn't get my head around it for the life of me.

With all glitching though I think one of the most important things is arranging the stuff by hand and doing extra edits that way.

i have spent many an hour of my life...cutting/pasting and muting regions to create "gltich" efx.....but now, I want a sick sequencer based Glitch-plug in....mostly because its like 10 plug-ins in one. how can you not be down? think of the processing power and tracks that won't be used up. ahhh, i look forward to using Effectrix.

I don't do much glitch-stuff (more of a breaks producer), BUT:

My obscure (free!) favorites:

The Kammerl Audio series (esp. Slicer + Looper) - great for quickly hacking up and re-arranging audio.
http://www.kammerl.de/audio/

Destroy FX's Buffer Override - can make some MEAN grains.

(not so free) Fruity-Loops Granulizer - Can also make some very evil noises, especially on vocals.

Go grab the first two now. Well worth it.

Feast your ears and eyes with the vids

http://www.gleetchplug.com/Gleetchplug/labvideos.html

Can't find at the very moment a free download link for older versions, but new one is coming out and it will cost just ten euros.

Awesome to mess with, record everything, then cut again and GLEEEEETCH!

For live and studio application: Audio Damage's Replicant and Ableton Live's Beat Repeat and the warping function. Sometimes creative cutting and pasting does the trick. One technique I've been toying with recently is recording a song or part thru a step sequencer and taking the resulting audio of that, flip it and twist it however you see fit and splice it in with the origi-dry signal.

Yeah, live I usually just beat up on the Effectrix;

in the studio I generally just go crazy with timestretching, automation, follow actions etc.

I stopped using the dblue plugin pretty quickly, I found it to be a little unstable; probably the only thing that's ever crashed Live on me.

i've been using cyclone, a plug that comes w/ sonar and is cool for rearranging sliced samples. but i have kontakt 3 now and i'm getting up to speed on its features for working w/ slices. it's pretty dope.

buffer override is very useful
dblue STRETCH is good for triggering granular stretching, tapestop for triggering tapestop effects (less useful than stretch though, stretch is my #1 live trigger effect)

dblue glitch or sugarbytes effectrix are fucking LAME. Load up your own damn effects, assign midi control to their on/off and parameters, and do that shit yourself. Its a lot more fun, trust me

Also, as said before, cut, copy, paste, and drawing in lots of automation. resample, rinse, repeat. and then repeat again

for triggered beat repeat, sugar bytes artillery is actually one of the best because you can assign specific repeat sizes to the keyboard and trigger them on the fly.

also, customizing your own shit in reaktor or max/msp is pretty fucking cash

Buffer Override is indeed The Shit. Most of the DestroyFX plugins are great for glitchy FX in fact.

Load a sample into Live's SIMPLER and then midi control the start point and length while it loops, record that as audio and then send those through your favorite effects chain.
